no problem! I get this question on every video so I thought I would make one about all the skis I will be using this season in Japan.

If you are a Volkl fan and are looking for a everyday/powder ski try the Volkl 100eight. I also have a pair of Shiro’s but only take them out if it’s really deep snow. The newer 100eight model is much more versatile unless you have two or three feet of now then it’s Shiro time. I am fortunate to be able to ski at Alta, UT in the USA so we ski lots of off piste, crud and powder. However we don’t see many race carver in the ski racks but we get lots of days on wider skis. The Volkl 100 eight is great.

Would of loved to see those trashed bases. Just to see what trashed bases really look like. How bad can it really be?

have you ever tried taking the UVO bug off the race tigers? I did it with a pair of rtms once, made them much better.

no I have never taken one off. That would be a good test to see the difference and see which I like better! are the holes where you unscrew the UVO water tight? or can you see the wood core? I have thought about it before but dont want to waterlog the core.

Hi Reilly, my GF uses the same Volkl SL skis as yours (and we both love them), but I went for the FIS version. I was wondering if you have tried those and if yes, what are your thoughts. Thanks.

if you are just skiing groomers the fis version is the best! in the moguls though for me its just a little too much for cruising on... you need to be right on it all the time.

Hey chief, How do you manage to transport all that gear? I tend to stick to two pairs per season because that's all I can feasibly carry, and am also generally limited by airline baggage costs.

yeah I here ya! I generally either fly with one or two sets as well. Over the years just leave them in one place so I don't need to carry them anymore. Each year accumulating a few more.

Hi Reilly, I am your real fan and just bought the same SL uvo. I noticed that your poles are quite short. Can you tell me how long are your poles ? thank you!

my poles are 100cm... i am 170cm... i like them short for skiing moguls

Hi Reilly, what make the mogul ski unique compare with SL racing skis or all mountain skis?
@ReillyMcGlashan
7 жыл бұрын
Hi there Kevin, Mogul skis do not have a metal sheet in them and are just usually a wood core with fiberglass. Makes it lighter and softer, therefore more forgiving in the moguls. SL skis and all mountain carvers generally have titanium in them making them heavier and stiffer. Hope this helps?

Thanks Reilly, one more question: what about the geometry(tip,waist and tail) and turning radius?
@ReillyMcGlashan
7 жыл бұрын
From memory the Mogul ski has a 105mm (tip) 65mm (underfoot) 89mm (tail)....

Hi Reilly! Thanks for sharing this kind of information, it is really interesting to hear thoughts of professionals about equipment. Could you please give me an advice about length of ski. I'm 190 cm height, 90 kg weight and according to "rules"/tables should always choose maximum length of ski, it is typically 183+ length. But in that length, non-SL skis typically have turn radius above 20m. So, my question is: Am I right with my paramters my natural choice is 20+ meters? Lets take Vokl Kendo you mentioned, in 183 length they have 22m claimed radius. Or Iit is fine to me 177 cm?

what is your weight? what level skier are you and what type of turns do you like doing the most?

My weight is 90kg (198 lb). While I'm intereseted in matering skiing in different terrains and with different turns, now I'm looking for equipment for short to medium turns as I can see in Your and Herald Hardb educational videos. What equipment would you recommend for me? Shell I ignore length of skis and just chose something for desired radius and stiff enough for my weight? May be I have to buy skis specifically for on-piste technique mastering, e.g. pair of "true" SL's 165cm long, or maybe kind of GS? Or it could be something all-mountain with 88-90mm waist, 20-23m radius and with Ti shell (like Kendo you mentioned or Blizzard Brahma)?

All world cup slalom skiers no matter their height or weight ski a 165cm slalom ski... it is just the regulations. Normally they have a 13m radius which is a radius good for carved short turns. If you want to do a "carved" short turn I would suggest looking for a ski with a radius less that 15m... That is if short turns are your desired turn to master. A wider ski will put more stress on your knee when you edge so sticking to something less than 75mm underfoot is ideal for groomed snow skiing. hope this helps

So, following you recommendations I found HEAD Supershape iSpeed 2017 good candidate, maximum length which still fits 15m radius is 177. Do you think it would be enough ski length for 90kg/190cm? Or I should rather go with 184 length/16.3 radius?
