Infotainment. Your videos are as much informational as they are entertaining. Thanks for that. One question: Why should that topcoat only be used on black paint?
@ReconstructingEmily
3 жыл бұрын
Infotainment- I like that! Oil based polyurethane will yellow your paint colors. Since its black it doesn't matter... but on other colors it will make a big difference. With darker wood colors and stains, it often adds color depth as well. Though I did recently use white gelstain on wood, and thusly did not use oil based polyurethane. Hope this helps!

I need to take my 2 small chest of drawers outside and start stripping them. One was a yard sale find my mother stumbled upon and the other is/was an unfinished pine piece she bought when she needed another dresser when my younger brother came along in 1958. The first is painted a nondescript shade of brown (no chips or gouges), but I want it just a natural pine like another I have, and the other my mom painted white, then decorated it with cute 1950's era decals of baby bunnies (the top got covered with contact paper some where along the way since 1958). That one I want to be just a natural pine finish as well. Guess the first thing for me to do would be to empty the drawers and get'em downstairs so I can easily drag them outside when the weather is decent enough to work and them drag'em back in for the night.
@ReconstructingEmily
2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like this is going to be quite the process. Make sure you're working in warm enough temperatures for the stripper to work. I have made that mistake a few times. Also make sure you take before pictures. Then you can see just how much different they look! I hope they turn out amazingly ❤️

Whoohoo!!! Your dresser looks amazing!!! 👏 That was a whole bunch of techniques that you showed and I appreciated that you demonstrated nearly everything that you had to do, especially the clamps! Personally, I would love to see how you made the walnut filler blend in, but my family told me when I was little that you can't always have what you want... I never tried eating the glue, but the kid next to me in school did, constantly. He is the head of IT at the company he works at now. Thank you!!!
@ReconstructingEmily
2 жыл бұрын
Apparently eating glue as a kid is a sign of possible success later in life! Who knew! 😆 🤣 Nothing fancy with the wood filler. There are a lot of different colors and not all will closely match the wood species. Mineral spirits can tell you what the wood will look like with a clear finish. I usually try to match closest to that. Key is, dont go by the bottle name! I have had good success with Goodfillas walnut color especially on aged or older walnut. If its a big patch you can try to color match grain patterns with paint. That is an art 🎨.
