One way of solving this problem would be to assign a function to x and another to y, both depending on the instant of time (t), using initial positions and velocities (even not knowing y's velocity). This way you could calculate at what t x(t) = 6. Then you could use the condition x^2 + y^2 = 100 to determine y's velocity in the instant of time previously calculated.

You can not ignore gravity. There is a constant downward acceleration of 9.8 meter/sec^2. This makes no sense!

But we also don't know anything about the friction force which is acting against the weight, so shouldn't one just focus on the kinematics part, thus ignoring the forces/accelerations?
