Babies get squashed during pregnancy. They’re in a really tiny space and don’t have a lot of room to stretch. This can put tension on their head, neck and shoulders which can in turn cause them to clamp or chomp on the breast. Some simple neck and shoulder exercises, along with tummy time, can go a long way to relaxing baby to help get a better latch. These exercises can be done several times a day. If you’re noticing baby is tighter on one side vs the other, has a head turn preference and always wants to look one direction, or does better on one breast but not the other, seeing a chiropractor or craniosacral therapist can expedite bringing balance back to the body for positioning which in turn will give you a deeper latch.
This video is mean for education purposes only. Exercises should be done under the direct supervision of a trained therapist or IBCLC as the needs of every baby are different.
