Hey Jon, I've spent a lot of time making and improving on aux electrical for my 80 series and I have some thoughts. 1. DON'T ground the circuit breaker, they don't require it and mounting it to the frame just create a potential to short on the frame which is going to cause major problems for all electrical components. Mount it someplace electrically isolated, ideally as close to the battery as possible. 2. You shouldn't be using a thermal breaker in this application, you should be using a fast blow fuse like a MEGA or MIDI. With that much current and that gauge of wire its very likely that in the event of a short you could actually fuse the breaker closed. Now this is something I need to take my own advice on because I use those breakers and I haven't installed my MEGA fuse yet because lazy. 3. be careful with pushing a ton of current through the XT60, they have a history of melting on EcoFlow. I understand they've made some changes to their cables, but it's been an issue in the past - keep an eye on it. 4. I would alter your signal wire location. Having it on the relay out isn't ideal. What I would consider is finding the signal for something that comes on with the ignition like the cigarette lighter and tapping into that and then putting a fuse between the tap and the signal. What I've done is I tapped that wire then added a small fuse panel and individually fuse any relay trigger that is using that signal using the bluesea 5045. I didn't realize Victron made a converter that wasn't a charger. That solves the issue I've had in my mind with trying to pair a multi-stage charger with an MPPT controller. Neat.

Heres a quick timestamp kzitem.info/news/bejne/xISI1Zhni6V0d34m40s Could I just get a much beefier inverter and do a similar setup but go for 1Kw charging, or do you think this would be too much draw on the truck battery? Just an important note regarding the starting battery info in this video. When you say you can "drain to empty", that is very vague value and should be explained with a voltage number. The majority of people do not understand when a battery is actually "empty" and why you should not even be getting close to that value. Your Optima, or Odyssey or Interstate or any other lead acid battery (wet cell or AGM) are all subject to the exact same chemical properties. A lead acid battery is essentially at 0% capacity (empty) at approximately 11.50 volts. And once you go below 10.5 volts you start to damage the internal chemical composition of the battery and can cause it to drastically lessen it's reserve capacity. Deep cycle does not mean you can drain the battery into single digit voltage...it will get damaged and start to have very diminished reserve storage capacity. Sometimes you can't even get it to take and hold a charge....battery is ruined. Most people don't realize that if your battery has a voltage reading of 12.0 volts you only have 50% capacity left. Always try to keep your lead acid batteries above 12.0 volts for longevity and a useful reserve capacity, regardless if they are deep cycle or starting design.

I think most people think of a battery being empty or dead when the engine won’t crank. I’ve had the optima yellow top dead to the point the dome lights wouldn’t come on. I accidentally hooked up my old Eco flow to a live 12v Anderson connector I had installed in the cargo area. I drained the battery to the point where the vehicle didn’t even have lights. I couldn’t use my jump box to bring the deep cycle AGM battery back to life. I tried using a pair of jumper cables and the Wife’s car and luckily everything came back. It’s been running great ever since. Yeah, admittedly I’m not a battery expert but I’ve observed a big difference between running a lead acid battery dead and running deep cycle AGM batteries dead.

@@JonDZ_Adventuring there's a big difference but it's still really bad. Do it a handful of times and you'll lose capacity. Do it once bad enough and you won't be able to charge at again. I screwed one up by simply not driving my car for 2 months in the winter. Charging fully with a trickle charger only gave me 2-3 starts a day as it wouldn't get enough charge from the alternator on around town driving to charge it for the next starts.

It took me watching this twice to see what you meant by the cable to the delta. You used the xt60i to MC4 that comes with the eco and then a mc4 cable that has bare wires on other end to hook up to the converter output. Anyone that has an understanding about this more than me, can the dc to dc converter be mounted under the hood close to the battery or will it over heat if mounted there? I was wondering about that because, if I can, then I can run 10 or 12 awg wire to the bed of my truck where the ecoflow and fridge is at.

All batteries will have issues in the cold. That’s why Teslas and other EVs will make people stranded in winter storms. In my videos, I show that in 40 degree temps, the 430 watt input of my dc to dc converter is only bringing in 220 watts into the batteries, but this goes for them all. The LFP batteries do it better than the CFM batteries found in Jackery etc. The trick to recharging the eco flow in cold temps is to run the heater in the car. Once cabin temps are higher, it’ll recharge at full speed. The LFP batteries won’t lose charge in cold temps.

So the accessory wire can be connected into anything that turns on when the vehicle accessory is turned on, for example, your 12v socket. As far as a limit on the amperage of the Solar input, it should still work because the MPPT will regulate how much can be inputted. I’m just unsure of how many watts you’ll get. Hope this helps. I’m a bit that the amount of heat generated inside the ecoflow by inputting such high current might degrade the life of the battery. I’ve been advised that recharging through the AC port is not the preferred method for the same reason: it will degrade the life of the battery faster than inputting through the slower solar ports or the cigarette lighter port. Any thoughts about that?

I read that there is a reason the manufacturer cap ms the amount of wattage the ecoflow will accept from solar I think at 220. I’m no expert either but doesn’t your method make it possible to exceed that? If so I would worry about creating more heat internally than what they have determined is optimum on a regular basis. I wonder if somebody who understands sola/lithium battery physics could address whether your method might kill the battery quicker?
@JonDZ_Adventuring
8 ай бұрын
@beverleywoodworth9694 what will kill the battery quicker is constantly cycling it. Exposing it to colder and hotter temperatures. My Delta 2 Max accepts a 1000 watt solar input. It has 2x 500 inputs. The 433 watt input from the DC to DC converter doesn’t surpass that. Even if it did the MPPT (brains of the power station), makes sure that nothing is damaged and charge is optimal. Okay, I guess I’m a little bit of an expert. I’m modest by nature 😃

I definitely need to beef up my charging game!! A few times my power station zap down to 5% and one time it died. I have the bifacial 220w solar panel too. That thing is big and heavy!!! It says 220w but i was getting roughly 150-180w on a sunny day 😩. I hate bringing the solar 👎

Most solar panels will only produce 80% of what they are rated, just so you know

This video is exactly what I was looking for! I haven’t been happy with charging my Ecoflow River Pro from my car, there’s not enough juice at times like you’ve described. This will help immensely! I’ll be adding it to my GX build and will most likely upgrade to the Delta Max like you have at some point. Hope to not get a zap when I’m installing it. Thanks for these super helpful vids. 🤙

If you have an OG gen 1 River Pro, your DC input will be limited to about 200w. Your best bet for fast charging is to do what I'm doing and install an AC inverter and charge the OG River Pro using the AC charging port. Same ideas/techniques as in Jon's video here to run wiring and calculate wire gauge, but you'd be using an AC pure sine wave inverter of at least 600W to AC fast charge your older Ecoflow unit. I went with a Sunthysis brand inverter off Amazon.

@@ZexGX awesome! Thanks for the info. Curious are you able to get near 600w input from the AC using this setup?

@@virtualjeff99 update: the 600w inverter was not enough - as the Ecoflow wanted to quick charge at 660w until the inverters surge capacity ran out, or slow charge at levels almost as low as the DC input with AC slow charging configured in the app... So I ordered a 1200W inverter which should be here tomorrow. The wiring gauges already I'm using (according to the calculators I could find online) should be OK for a 1200w inverter, but with how I'll be using it, the circuit isn't going to be getting close to those loads. Test 2, coming up!

This video was very well-timed for me! I'm working on a soft-road overland build in my 2012 Outback and a DC-DC charger for my River 2 Max is high on my list to power my Iceco APL55 fridge. Zap!

I’m about to undertake this project but with a cheaper 12-24v20a puck booster. I have the BLUETTI version and it only accepts 10a max.

10A max of 12v? Most cigarette ports can handle that
@pennmikael

@@TobyCostaRica I wasn’t clear. I have a BLUETTI b230 and I’m using a BLUETTI d050s which accepts up to 60v input but only at 10a max. So in my case I can only use 24v10a instead of the max rating of 24v20a rating of my booster.
