I composed this piece for two pianos in 2011 while I was studying music composition at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. It was performed a couple of times but unfortunately I was one of the pianists on both occasions and my piano performance anxiety got the best of me. I was not able to secure a solid recording. This video is a rendering that I created, playing both parts a few bars at a time using a piano sampler by EastWest, (the best that I could get my hands on in 2011). I stumbled upon the sheet music and rendering while going through some of my files and thought it would be a shame if one of my favorite works never saw the light of day.
Reluctor 176 - Is a minimalist piece organized around a couple of thematic chord progressions with a focus on time signature changes and polyrhythms. One of the other things that I experimented with was keeping both pianos in the same register for extended periods, something that is not really practical when composing for 2 players at one piano. I also experimented with the use of harmonics as a percussive element in the back 3rd of the piece.

After college. my career interests shifted towards the smart home industry and my other strong passion, the restoration of vintage audio equipment. I am on a long hiatus from writing but hope to get back into composition some day.
