This tutorial is the best I’ve seen so far!! I have two Selkie puff dresses and I was gonna attempt to make them. I was considering doing a full circle skirt based on my rib cage measurement plus a little more to gather so it is extremely puffy. The Selkie dress has a circle skirt under the first layer which is pinned with a stitch at even parts throughout the top of the skirt at the waist to give it more puff (it is not perfectly sewn into the top seam) if you want to play around with that for your next version (there should be three skirt layers not including lining) if there is one 😊

The part about the sleeves was so confusing despite your really good explanation lol. Those things make my tiny brain fume, if I need to turn something like 3 times and want to imagine how I need to do it so it turns out correct

i did my own version of this dres and the bottom lays WAY better if you cut it from multiple circles - you don't need that much gathering at waist then, so the amount of fabric is simmilar, but it just flows and drapes better

This dress is adorable, love the shots of the dress at the end 💖💖 Just wondering, especially for the sleeves does the organza feel itchy/scratchy? How can you tell the difference between different types of organza material?
@THISISKACHI
3 жыл бұрын
Not at all! Cause I lined the sleeves, therefore there are no raw edges on my skin that would be scratchy 👍🏻 normally it's written on the fabric but with organza out of silk or nylon you can tell it ASAP. The nylon has this plastic shine whereas the silk has an elegant sheen 👌🏻 and if you're unsure, you can always do a try out where you burn the fibers (of course only if you own the fabric!) and the plastic will melt, natural fibers smell a certain way.

I like the usefulness of the videos as a guide, although parts of it are so confusing. I bought material according to the pattern that states 3m organza and 1.5m lining but the video uses only the organza, as far as I can see. Given that silk organza is so expensive, I hope that the video and paper instructions were clearer about the materials. I am only using organza for inner & outer sleeve, so I really need nearly 4m organza. Might be helpful for others but also depends on cost of fabric. Mine is $48/m. But thank you for a video that complements the paper instructions. You're definitely skilled and confident to share knowledge.

One thing I always wonder with dresses that have multiple layers (interfacing, lining, ect..) is: Doesn't it get really, REALLY warm? (Sadly the only times I've ever tried on such dresses they were those cheap polyester dresses from like the H&M "fancy"-dress section.) Is it no problem? Or does it make a huge difference if you use natural fibers? For example organza, I always imagine this really awfully feeling plastic garbage, my brain can't even grasp how an organza type material would feel if it's made out of silk or cotton.
@THISISKACHI
3 жыл бұрын
In fact the biggest difference is the natural fibers. Polyester does not let air circulate which makes you really really hot in summer. Natural fibers also have different properties which can make your feel warm or cold as well, also depending on the weaving type this varies, but for summer, usually fibers like linen, cotton or silk are the best 👌🏻
