30 years ago today, the Yugoslav Peoples’ Army (JNA) attacked the Old Town of Dubrovnik, Croatia - a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. This was the last day of the shelling of Dubrovnik, which had begun on 1 October 1991.
The ICTY convicted two high-ranking military officers, Miodrag Jokić and Pavle Strugar, for crimes committed during these attacks. In the case against Strugar, the ICTY recognised the destruction of cultural heritage as a war crime.
IRMCT remembers those events and pays tribute to the victims.
