Remember Shakti was organised in Mumbai in January 2003. I was there and met all these people. I was searching the program's CD or DVD but years later I found a DVD of this program. Its a wonderful experience.

saw remember shakti live three times, and esp. the first time I was so amazed, I tripped. seriously, I was out of my mind, literally, I cannot recall a certain section of the performance, I just know it was outstanding. when I returned to earth, I was standing right in front of JM, leaning to the stage, arms raised, eyes and mouth wide open, unable to remember standing up. lol. there's nothing better in the world than watching McLaughlin smile at his bandmates in admiration and joy. :-)

Yeah I remember Shakti! They still sound incredible.....When I was 15 years old (1976) I saw the first incarnation of this group in Bayonne (France) in a open Roman Amphitheater. The festival opened with John McLaughlin/Shakti, then Weather Report with Jaco, Larry Coryell solo, then Billy Cobham/George Duke Band and finally Herbie Hancock Group with Wah Wah Watson! It was one of the hottest summers on record, and the green moroccan hash didn't hurt the experience either! Memories........

How could anyone say this is smooth polite coffee table jazz? Its far more complex intricate subtle than original Shakti! When you have played the most complex Indian jazz ragas melodies improvs n rhtythms on the planet, where do you go as you grow as a person & musician over 30 years?...Remember Shakti, that's where!

LMAO. I kinda agree. The lack of his acoustic burns. The fury through the microphone is far more vicseral and effective than through the pick up. The rhythms are still there. It is neither coffee table nor smooth though! IMO. Much prefer the original. But JM was never gonna do the same thing twice.
