Meanwhile. "Jeremy Hunt has vowed to do more to help those on six-figure salaries if the Tories win the general election - and he clings on to his own seat. The Chancellor suggested, if he remains in charge of the Treasury beyond 4 July, he would be focused on removing 'cliff edges' for high earners in the tax system." Just think, if Rob Burrow , the former Rugby League player who died of Motor Neurone disease had been poor, this government would have had him assessed by a non medically trained idiot who would have passed him fit for work. Cut off his support, left him in the freezing cold, starving in the dark.. If you support this sort of policy, remember one day it could be you and he was once far more fitter and healthier than the vast majority of you. Enough said. Rob Burrow R.I.P mate.

it was me and my sis, and yes they left me us to die basically. cut my support worker which left me helpless and unable to interact. i made it out, my sister didnt. she died trying to get her history degrees so she could work to help people while getting no help for the banned meds they gave her which made her sick. all we got was a newspaper appologu and a helpline, someone showed it to me 25years later (agoraphobes dont get out to buy papers). i have mentally ill family thatbwere doing fine on meds, treatable condition. but when they cut funds and care workers, and the pahrmacists stopped giving daily doses, he started taking his meds out of control (as happens when your desperate to escape your own mind). there was a reason he was on daily doses. now hes in and out of an institution still getting himself beaten half to death by drunken thugs so theyll section him for a few more weeks. hes lost, not doing well at all. he will die from this gauranteed. and rishi and co think they can palm us off with a smile. they are insane. we went years with nobody checking in, it was meant to be weekly or fortnightly at the most. nothing. they are killing people. many. silently.

Can’t people see that the genuinely ill are suffering because of the chancers ? I have worked with people who use ‘anxiety’ and ‘my mental health’ to get a short notice break from work. God knows I’m anxious at the moment but it would take serious illness or a family emergency to make me skip work . I also worked with someone who tried to fake asthma so as not to go on a particular department at work. The cough she faked for near on a year and when she realised the new management were unfazed and put her on that department anyway the cough magically disappeared! Because her condition was imagined the GP had no reason to have anything on her records. You’ll be relieved to know she got another job in another department and is completely symptom free now and no doubt counting down the days to a labour victory where she can join her mum on benefits (a woman in her 50’s who has worked 2 weeks in her whole life)

If today’s attitudes to mental health had existed at the end of the second world war we would never have rebuilt this country as millions would have been “signed off” with PTSD. I’m sure millions did suffer because of the war but attitudes of the time meant they just had to get on with life.

There are undoubtedly people who work the benefits system, cry off with a GP note, I've worked with JCP staff and they often know the regulars that just don't want to work. HOWEVER, they are the minority! and most people want to work and the ones who are not well may need extra support to enable them to work. Maybe making work actually pay would help, many people are working and claim in work benefits, tax credits etc because wages have stagnated over the last 14 yrs of the tory project austerity. Invest in people and they will want to work!

The problem is not people claiming long term sick notes, it’s doctors not having adequate time to properly asses people. Rather than adequately fund the NHS and create pay and conditions which encourage doctors to stay in this country, Sunak proposes to set up s system of inadequately qualified assessors, trained to reject claims.
@ecohipster7724

Doctors get a couple of minutes per patient. Coughs are therefore treated as colds when they can be a lot more serious. The average time for a doctor is 10.6 minutes. That is the average. A single patient can blow up the average. Then you the necessary documentation for each case.

It took me 18 months to access sickness benefits during which time I had to put in sick notes. When I finally won my appeal I was given over £5000 in back money. However receiving this lump sum cancelled my debt relief order which put me back in £12000 of debt. It was not until 5 years later that I was able to put in for another debt relief order. So now my £12000 of debt is written off but I have to wait another six years until I can get credit. Normally the wait for sickness benefits is supposed to be 7 weeks but because of the Tories I received a lump sum. Had I been paid this money weekly from the start I would not be having to wait another six years for access to credit.

@@thegoat11111 sorry you had to go through all of this, it’s extremely exhausting and stressful to receive the benefit that you need to support you with your illness. For me it took 14 months to get my benefit awarded in my favour, I’m now waiting for my renewal to hopefully go through witch brings all the stress back of whee I had to go to court to appeal my case.
