I was a box lad at crewe south but when I turned 18 I transferred to saltley and did my traction training to be a secondman there, that was 1977. Our trainer was called Bert something and we nearly set the yard on fire during the fire fighting course. Still have my train mans manual we were given by Bert by mistake. The only face I recognised was at 5.25 but thought he was a guard. The only other person I can remember from my class was a box lad from saltley power box called Dave knight I do know he passed out as a driver as I met him a crewe in the early 80s.. I was at saltley for 18 months then transferred back to crewe where I did my driver training. Can't believe the BOP and mess room still looked the same, crazy. Thanks for the upload and the memories 👍👍

My grandfather was Jack Randall, going way back, he passed away in about 2006 at about 88 years old, a proper character, he was a Saltley driver.
