Pro Football Hall of Famer and renown broadcaster Frank Gifford has passed away at the age of 84. See some of his best moments as a player and commentator here.
He and Jim Brown where my two favorite pro football players from my early years of remembrance of the nfl . Should have been on the top 100 nfl players of all time list . He played both sides of the ball , came back from a life changing injury , won an mvp , and was an nfl champion in the biggest media market . How did he not make that list ?

because he doesn't have eye-popping numbers. That's what's wrong with that list. They took too much stock into counting stats and not postseason awards (All-Pros, Pro Bowls).

Gifford wasn't a wide receiver - a term that wasn't invented during his career. He was a flanker, a position equivalent to today's slot receiver.

He presented one of the first NFL programmes in the UK. It was a good show, he explained the game well to a new audience. Even though nobody really knew who he was (no easy Google searches back then). He did it in an informative and informal way. It was a good style, you could tell the guy must be a complete legend of the game. Sadly the programmes makers replaced him with pair of UK idiots. which spoiled it for me.

Gifford played in an era that was indeed integrated. In fact some of the greatest players off all time played during this era. NFL was integrated in the late 1940's. Gifford played in the mid 50's to the mid 60's. At least get your eras correct.
