In US news and current events today, this lost NYC neighborhood was once home to a vibrant Arab-American community. In the 1880s in New York City, Arab immigrants, predominantly from Syria and Lebanon, settled in an area just blocks from the World Trade Center site. This early settlement, became known as ‘Little Syria’ or the ‘Syrian Quarter.’ It would exist from 1880 until the mid 1940s.
