Benny Goshen was just 5-year-old when he and his family set out on the long journey to Israel, traveling by foot thousands of miles from Ethiopia to Sudan. The only thing that kept them going through the desert with harsh road conditions, dangerous rivers and robbers and rebels was their dream to live in Israel and Jerusalem.
Benny was one of tens of thousands of Ethiopian Jews, who made the long and dangerous journey to the Sudanese border to meet with the Mossad man who helped them get to Israel. Many made it to Israel and turned it into their home, but many others lost their lives along the way.
Tomorrow we mark Jerusalem Day in Israel. Tomorrow we also commemorate the Remembrance Day of 4,000 Ethiopian Jews who didn't survive the tedious journey.
The Jewish Agency Chairman Isaac Herzog met with Benny to hear, remember and tell the miraculous story of those immigrants who sacrificed so much to call Israel their home.
