If the bird knew how to cook it's own self that would be cool Winchester hit a home run on the Long beard xr

How’d it do at 50 yards?
@NorthRiverGuide

75 in the kill zone? You know nonlethal hits don't count in real life? And at 45yds those #6 pellets don't kill reliably let alone at 50 and 60yds. You could benefit by going with #5 and balancing out your effective pattern distance and distance that the pellet can reliably kill. Looks like you have a 60yd pattern with a 45yd pellet.

I'm not sure what you're going for here. I bought a bunch of #6 for my new shotgun and test them out here and share with the rest of the world my results. We could go round and round about what is the best pellets. Either way these #6's are plenty effective for any turkey hunters needs and it's very obvious to a seasoned turkey hunter. Good luck this season and thanks for watching!

@@campbenny I was offering a suggestion to balance out your pattern with your pellet's effective range. I've killed many turkeys from 4 lead to 8 lead at various distances and opened their head and necks up to see the penetration and terminal results. Your pattern sure can land pellets at 60yds, but with those pellets at those upper distances all you are doing is wounding birds unless the stars align. You would gain a little more performance from going to #5 and sacrificing a little pattern distance and gaining pellet energy.

@@campbenny I'm not poopooing the #6 pellet, just with your particular setup going to #5 would be beneficial. If you had a more loose pattern the 6 would be better. It's why you don't see much #4 20ga lead turkey load, they just arent practical using a 65yd pellet when the pattern is really only a 30yd pattern with a decent choke. Where a longbeard 20ga #6 would be generally a 40yd pattern with a 40yd pellet. Making for a 40yd turkey killing setup rather than a 30yd turkey killing setup that can kill further if lucky, but mostly just wounding birds at that point.

Great combination there Benny!! That is the exact same setup I am using when our season opens on the 17th. I have an 870 Express that I have had for about 35 years, and I am using the exact same ammo. I did put a set of TruGlow sites on my ventilated rib on my 870 just about a week ago. That seemed to help these older eyes with sighting in on target. Thanks for sharing. Good luck!!

Your 870 is a turkey’s nightmare! It’s fun figuring out new setups for effectiveness. I’m working up a 28 ga Stevens O/U with Carlson .520 choke tubes using TSS #9.5. That ammo is amazing!! It would be better if you didn’t have to sell a kidney just to buy ammo. 😢

I'm jealous of the fact you have no snow. Here in central MN we have 2 feet of snow still. Just got 8 more additional inches last evening. Hell, I already put my plow truck away! Haha. We're actually thinking of delaying my season(dates) choice by 2 weeks. That shot pattern will take em down for sure. Great video! Good Luck Brian

Good pro tips, practice calling is a must, but I would say don't practice when you're in the woods scouting. You don't want ole tom getting wise to the calling and seeing human activity. If you're scouting, depending on the time, take a crow or owl call to locate any birds. I use three calls when I go hunting, I have an ole box call, a slate call, and I have a waterproof pot call that I use if the weather isn't good, and then I have my mouth calls. Local guy here in WV makes a call called the "Green Eyed Monster" and that was what I used to take my turkey a few years ago.

Got lucky with that one, landed a pellet where it needed to go, beyond the pattern's reliable range, and the pellets range to penetrate bone reliably.
