The brown finish looks great, so do your grips. I bet the brass post makes for a good sight picture. I think it looks good without finger grooves. Colts have a special mystique, but Remingtons really are a superior gun. Great job!

All Smith and Wesson revolvers will show marks on the cylinder caused by the bolt. This is not a defect - just the way the action is designed.

I always wonder why the hammer end is designed to point up. Should been lower to easier reach it.

45 colt or 45 acp are the right diameter for the 1858 barrel. .452 inch diameter. 44- 40 bullet is .429 diameter. 44-40 would bounce around in a 1858 barrel. 44-40 Not happening without a .429 barrel.

@@kevinmarkham6385 I put the caliper on 4 different 1858s. They were measuring .448 to .450 at the muzzle. Still to big for 44-40.

@@Mike-xi4zt mine is from pietta. i looked it up and the 44-40 "conversions" are made from the factory to shoot that cartridge so theyre not standard guns that have been converted they were made to shoot that round

@@kevinmarkham6385 That makes sense. They are pairing up the correct barrel with that conversion. That particular cartridge would not be backwards compatible for putting a standard 44 cap and ball cylinder in it.

No body makes a .44/40 conversion cylinder. Good luck

they make remington “conversion” guns in 44-40. not individual cylinders but they make a remington new model army from the factory with a 44-40 cylinder
