Those old B&O dwarf signals bring back memories for me. B&O had a double track next to the old Montgomery Ward store and warehouse in SW Baltimore with color position dwarf signals just west of the Washington Blvd. crossing. I used to always park on the track side of the lot and wait in the car watching the signals change with passing switching moves while my mother would be shopping in the store. That was back in the 1970s. Nowadays the Wards building is still there but the store, warehouse, dwarf signals, and even the second track are but a memory.

Hi there. Dear my friend, Brian. How's everything? Thank you for giving us beautiful freight train video. Japan is now exposed to the threat of influenza A type to such extent that it has not been seen in recent years, sufferers are increasing trends and there is no sign of termination. As a matter of course medical staff were forced to work severely, and the patient with the usual underlying disease had died. Continuing the day without rain is a major factor, but for the affected patients and exhausted staff, this video is a good prescription medicine that can not be replaced anything. How is your country? Thank you for the wonderful video. I wish you a good start in 2019. See you soon. See you soon!!! From Tokyo bay area - Yokosuka city in Japan. Your new friend :-) Sawa.

Oh if anyone is gonna ask i work on the Chicago service unit for UP and CSX Barr yard is literally around the corner from our yard, in fact they use our tracks from the old MoPac line to get to Barr from the south and they also use it coming from the BRC sometimes.

Typically cabooses (or is the plural cabeese?) in revenue service are used as shoving platforms. They're exclusively for local trains where there may not be a runaround track available for the locomotive, albeit in a barebones solution. Here however, I'm not sure why the caboose is on the train, especially right next to the loco

OK so I'm pretty new to this railfanning thing, what is the purpose of having the engineer operate the train by remote control? Also, I'm surprised that a big company like CSX doesn't require these workers to wear orange or green safety vests while working around an operating train on active tracks.

So what do they do if while picking up or setting cars out the tail end of the train is going forward and backwards thru one or more street crossings that they have no idea if the crossing gates are operating correctly? Ole Jaw Tooth here has already brought us many videos with crossing light or gate problems.
@curtnicholson7771
5 жыл бұрын
@Jacob Hood Hey Jacob this is Curt N. I guess I would agree with you if this is a fairly short to slightly medium size cut of cars that the conductor can possibly take care of this but I guess I was thinking of a fairly longer train. Somewhere farther down the line they would have to pull to. To be able to come back to pick him back up unless he walks the whole distance back to the cab. I guess I was thinking that possibly with crossing malfunction that they would have called in the problem and that possibly besides manpower coming out for repair purposes would they also assist in watching or flagging the crossing. I guess I'm thinking back to years ago when the conductor was at the rear of the train to watch that end. With the end of that era apparently it is legal contract wise for these employees who ride in trucks to now do this. I guess it must be because they are brought in to throw switches to sidetrack long trains on CN near where I live. I don't know because I am only a fan and was never an employee to know the rules and how they all changed over the decades with the loss of the fireman, brakeman, loss of the caboose and moving off the conductor to the lead engine. I don't know what all assistance the truck traveling employees are allowed to do. I guess it's something I should write Trains magazine to do an article on to explain unless an employee would post something I could read to catch up on this. Who can do what? It makes me wonder what happens now on these huge trains that CN are running up in Canada with an engineer only. What do they do with a brake down way back of the train and this train is way out in the middle of nowhere near a highway for trucked in assistance to come from. The only thing I see is to bring in a truck from behind on their high wheels and once repaired to follow the train to the next close highway to get off. What do you think other than I'm looking g winded, actually sore fingered.

It's a shame to see this all coming. It's to put more money in the share holders pockets and not those of the working men and women of this great country. Although I'm not so sure that it's greatest time may have been in the past we can always hope for better. It's to bad we couldn't have a robotically controlled congress, then maybe we could actually get them to do something and maybe it would actually be what we the people of the country want instead of just what the rich people want. My only hope now is people like Brian here making these great videos because he goes around the country doing what he loves to do and passing it on to us and all as he has now made it another one of his great pieces of recorded history. It's PEOPLE like him and other rail fans, people filming planes, ships, animals, mankind, what ever they want to record that will leave a trail of recorded history as our previous still photographers and motion film fans have left us. That no multi-million dollar movie studio will ever come close to doing. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
