To me, a big help to the RID issue on the FAA side would be to reevaluate the 250 gram weight limit. If I recall from the top of my head, the entire basis of the 250 gram number comes from an "experiment" in which they threw pencils at sheets of store bought aluminum foil. They didn't try anything properly scale like say colliding an Efilte twin otter into the side of a cessna or ramming a Freewing F-18 into the windshield of a 737, they didn't do anything that would have produced worthwhile data. I love UMX models, and I'm happy that more companies are moving into the UMX and "Bigger than UMX, but smaller than 1m wingspan" market, but increasing the 250gram number would definitely be a good step forward.

That's an idea, but interpretation is variable. The results of such tests might not come out like you think they would. It all depends on how THEY look at it. The tests you suggested might render something else to be regulated. I'm good if they leave it alone...

Most of those old molds are long gone, and even if they aren't, those airframes would not be up to the new more powerful 3s and 4s power systems. The Gee Bee for instance has thin under cambered wings...flimsy compared to the newer full airfoil stuff. In our Draco video we tell you that is the start of what will be a new line of models designed to be right at the 250g limit. The "Micro" line rather than "Ultra Micro". They will make models in both lines.

@@kianwong4625 mine are all set to 95. Rudder servo on the UMX AT was wonky out of the box. But, it's part of the main board and it "kind of" worked for a few months. So, I just dealt with it. Made for exciting landings. Until it crapped the bed all together. I've replaced a few other UMX aileron servos and the new ones with detachable cables are super easy. Linear long throws are just not super robust. It's a trade off for being so lightweight.

Hey mate, love the vids! This might be a dumb question, I’m new to RC planes…but why don’t the spectrum transmitters telemetry just have a plane battery percentage on the screen (like you do on your phone, or even how the transmitter has a battery icon and percentage of charge for the transmitter itself) instead of voltage you have to mentally work out based on the amount of cells, nominal voltage, etc? There must be a reason I’m missing, since a remaining battery percentage is the default is basically every other electronic device.
@ModelAV8RChannel
2 ай бұрын
That is actually something they are working on...having telemetry that is more of a "gas tank" reading than voltage. It will eventually have milliamps used, but you'll still need to know how many you can use based on the size of the battery. That said, you can adjust and set an alarm to tell you when you reach a certain voltage now, and I set a voltage reading on my momentary switch so I can hit that any time and get the voltage so I have an idea what I have left I think the reason they don't have percentages is because it is too variable and difficult to get an accurate reading on with a RC airplane. Things like your phone, I Pad, laptop...they all use the power at a consistent rate. With an RC airplane the usage rate varies greatly depending on your throttle setting. Voltage dips and climbs back up depending on that as well, that is called voltage sag. So at full throttle it might say 15% then you back off to half and in a few seconds it would say 50%.

You know what Adam - watching your video - it has suddenly become apparent to me that the UK have had the same system that the USA is now heading for (that is all apart from the Remote ID- at the moment) - we have really not been able to just roll up at any location and fly - even in parks they have regulations that prevent it, and as for doing it on roads - we would be closed down very quickly indeed by the local police force... your FRIAs are in fact nothing more than our BMFA approved and registered RC Clubs - when it comes here (RID) - which it will.... I guess "I'm all right Jack" would be my case - but even if it was not, I would get a Remote ID module(given they can be swapped between aircraft) without hesitation. now having said all of this - you will never get me to go small - Bigger flys better no matter how good the small ones are, if they made a big one with the same tech it would fly better.... Maybe the day will come when all we can fly are the small 250g models because or CAA here in the UK and FAA in the USA, are bowing down to Commercial pressures (so that the corporations can follow the Money) - when that day comes, I will toss my hat in and say "so long and thanks for all the fish"...
