The thoughts you shared about trust got me thinking. Why is it so common for managers to distrust their people? I suspect there is a tension between the principle that everyone can be worthy of trust and the reality that we all behave dishonestly, and we know it. It takes some maturity as a leader and manager to combine the principle and the reality and then act in a way that invites people to be their best honest self. Dan Ariely’s research on everyday dishonesty illustrates how we all have a “fudge factor” that limits our dishonest behavior to a level that allows us to maintain a self-image that we are honest people. He also found that simply reminding people of their honest self-image significantly reduces or eliminates dishonest behavior. That’s why the mature approach works. If you as a leader and manager communicate to your people that they are honest and worthy of trust, you are reminding them of their honest self-image, which influences them to behave more honestly. If more leaders understood this fundamental aspect of human behavior, they would be more likely to take the approach you’ve recommended: communicate and act like your people are worthy of trust, and they will be. Good stuff in the entire livestream, Jason and David. Can’t wait for more!

Very nice thoughts indeed, can't agree more. Its the push that people are honest brings more honesty not the other way around... And yes work not completed on time couldn't be directly proportional to being dishonest... find the reasons and try to remove those...

Great, great, great conversation! My takeaways: Around 33:00 -> Instead of asking for an estimate, give a time/budget frame, and ask to do the best thing in that timeframe! Around 40:00 -> The fucking "Introverted" revenge :) that was funny. Around 59:00 -> Respect people's time, don't ping (interrupt) people with requests... Good idea to have "experts" having a sort of slot where questions flow to be addressed once a week. Don't interrupt if it's not deadly urgent! 1:05:00 -> Also Managers should be aware of that, because they are the managers, so most of the time their requests have a different weight... 1:34:00 -> No shared calendar, people need to have control over their time. If it's too easy, people will take it... 1:39:00 -> Culture, what it is, what does it mean? The tools you use and the systems you use shape how people work! "Friction is a feature" "Culture is not something that it's created, culture is something that exists. It is the byproduct of consistent behavior, it is what you simply do, that's what culture is."

Thank you guys, from Italy. I’m a small business owner and we tried remote work cause of the pandemic situation. I’m thinking about going full remote, after receiving great feedbacks from all the team members for the great work we were capable to handle during the crisis. I’m collecting as many information as possible to make a choice which is sustainable and make everything proud to be in our company. Thanks again for the many great advices.
