To make it worse, mine had a TINY hex screw in the center of the hinge which makes it impossible to punch the hinge pin out. You have to remove the rice-sized screw in order to remove the pin… after you remove the cap at the bottom. SO STUPID!
@davegoar1893

Why remove the cap on the bottom. Most are center drilled. Use a pin punch from the bottom with the cap in place or with your method use the vice grips on the pin instead of the bottom cap.

Why does everyone feel the need to reinvent the wheel?? What on earth was wrong with a standard good ol hinge pin that you jus tap out, now we need a cap and an extra step to do something completely useless. Oh I know why how silly of me, it was to make a buck....

I'm a woman with not much strength. Is there a way to do this without the vice grip? If not, how hard is the vice grip to lock down? You grunted when you locked it, so it seemed like you had to use a lot of strength to do so. Please advise, thanks.

Isn’t there a hole in the bottom cap? Looks like it. You usually pound the pin out by putting something through that hole in the cap. No need to remove it first.

CAUTION! I just bought three nice National Hardware stainless-steel door hinges that only LOOK like the older "bottom cap" hinge in this video. In mine, however, the cap with the hole in it is swaged in place, preventing removal with vise grips (or almost anything else). Fortunately, when I looked inside that hole with my headlamp, I could see the end of the main hinge pin farther down inside the hinge. I simply inserted a 10D nail into the hole, set the "short" edge of the hinge across the miter-gauge channel in the top of my table saw, and tapped the head of the nail until the main hinge pin started to come out. I then finished removing it with a pair of pliers. (It came the rest of the way easily.) Hope this helps.

Thank you but what a poor design there was no reason to fix something that worked fine for years I've never had any of my hinges squeak yet I was able to easily use a screwdriver to remove them ever built over designed this and I don't have time for this crap I'm just hanging a door and I have to return to Florida and can't sit here and figure out how to fix something that shouldn't be difficult but it's making hanging my door twice as difficult as it should be
