My Fender Strap Lock came unscrewed and I wasn't sure what to do to fix it. This video shows the technique that I used to remove and repair the strap lock.
Oh my God, give this man a beer! Your quick fix saved me HOURS of head scratching and misery. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this video!

Thank you! It took several attempts, but I was eventually able to get my broken strap lock off using this method. Using a paper clip helped to push the dental floss down.

So I did try your technique but couldn’t get the floss down and round the peg. However my wife had bought me a Dremel 4000 for my birthday which did the trick. Thanks for motivating me to do the job though as I’d been pondering for weeks how to solve the problem. 👍

Just did this and had the pin sufficiently out with just the floss (tape, not string type) in less than one minute start to finish. Thank you!

You can use a drop of loctite, steel epoxy or thread locker. I did that to all my cheap straplocks before even putting them on the guitar. Great tip thanks!

Thanks for posting this. After I saw it I managed to accomplish this while holding the instrument in a way gravity could let the stem hang out just enough to grab it with pliers. Which wasn't easy with a bass. Next time I'll get someone else to hold the instrument. Fender & Shaller S Locks have poor design. I've just ordered the Fender Infinity/Ernie Ball style locks.

I was so angry. Found your video during the pandemic and only had the little floss picks at home and no substitute like thread or something. I ended up holding the guitar upside down so just a tiny bit of the screw would occasionally come out and fortunately I have these screw extraction pliers called vampliers (gimmicky name I know) but thankfully they did their job and were able to grip the screw so I could release it. Ironically and fortunately I just got the vampliers in the mail yesterday! Thanks for the video though! BTW I have only had these strap locks installed a week. Absolutely insane that this already happened

String didnt work, But I used some large nail clippers. I put the guitar vertically so the broken piece of the lock hung just a little bit from the bottom and then grabbed the small piece with the clippers. I didnt have pliers handy, but I'm sure it would've worked as well. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks both to you and the original poster of the video. The needle nose pliers I had couldn’t get a grip, but holding the guitar upright and using nail clippers did the trick. Thanks 😅

I couldn't quite grab the tip of the pin. I got a small hacksaw and CAREFULLY cut into the threaded part of the part that's normally attached to your guitar strap (remove it from the strap first.) I cut most of the way through (only took about 5 minutes with a sharp blade.) Then with a needle nose pliers I got the spring and broken shaft to pop out and then the lock came off. Protect the body of your guitar, of course. I did call Fender who told me to follow the method used in this video if the pin was showing enough. I asked and they send me a new set of their strap locks.

I couldn't get the floss to work, but what worked for me was gravity and a small pair of needle nose. With the screw sheared off, there is no tension on the mechanism. So I just tilted it upside down and let the screw fall out a bit and grabbed it with the pliers.

Here's the secret to the Fender strap lock: 1) Pull the knob all the way out 2) Grab the non-threaded part of the inner shaft with a pair of needle-nosed pliers and hold it tight. 3) Unscrew the knob. 4) Put a drop or two of red thread locker on the shaft threads. 5) Screw the knob back on. They will never, ever come loose after that.

Thanks, same predicate for me. Couldn't get the floss to loop, but was able to pry it up enough with a jewelers screwdriver to get some needle nose pliers on it. Curious, are you staying with the fender strap locks?

I've kept the Fender strap locks. The ball hasn't come off again. It is a strange design. To allow the screw to retract to a point that seems impossible to retrieve? Just a little longer screw would have been helpful.

That was too much work! The 2 minute fix for me was grab a hack saw, cut half way thru threaded part, bend over and it falls out. Really was simple actually.
