Many critisize these methods as they compromize the sound somewhat. But, the best way to do it I would say is manually removing the big pops like you showed in the beginning and mechanically clean your record well to remove the smaller clicks. This is a nice overview anyhow, well done.

This is true, which is why I follow the recommendation to keep the filter settings as low as possible and use your judgement to see if there is an undesirable difference in sound quality. Of course, records should always be as clean as possible before making a digital transfer, but sometimes little ticks can't be cleaned away completely. Thanks for your comment!

I recently downloaded Click Repair. The owner of the program has automized the program completely. Just place the song in the program, tell it where to save it. And hit start. It does a pretty good job cleaning the pops and clicks. Once, it stops with a bell. It will save it where you indicated it, with a cr suffix.

Thank you for this video! After spending over 2 days (and counting) manually removing clicks & crackles from a 7 inch recording using Audacity, I am ready to try anything. I'm going to give Click Repair a try.

Go for it. If you find any other software that works I'd be interested to hear about it! This was not a comprehensive overview of the tools available, obviously.

Great video and really informative. I'm currently buying a lot of older House/Electronic music on vinyl which hasn't been released in digital form or on C.D. I've been using Goldwave but found on occasion it reduces certain frequencies. I'll give these programs a go, thanks for the upload.

Thank you very much for a very excellent review! Very thorough, well thought out, calmly and intelligently presented, with tons of good examples. Probably the best EweToob review of an audio product that I've ever seen. Having said that, I'm working on some 60-yr-old children's records that have been badly abused. Even after thorough cleaning, there is a lot of visible damage. I've tried Wave Corrector and while it seems to get smaller clicks, it leaves a lot of bigger pops caused by visible surface scratches. (I've also tried ClickFix plugin in Cool Edit Pro, with similar results.) I would very much like to at least try Click Repair. Sadly, I've seen posts that were over a year older than yours, wherein the author says he doesn't expect to recover from health issues. He's no longer marketing the program. I would love to try it, at least for the 3-week trial period. I would gladly pay the reg. fee but Brian has ceased selling it and the website is gone. I would gladly contribute to any charity -- more than the "retail" price -- if the program is as good as you indicate. But I'm stymied because I can't find the files anywhere! Do you know of any source where I could get the ClickRepair installer for Windows, so I could at least give it a try? Thanks again for your EXCELLENT review and intelligent comments! I've subscribed to your channel and hope to hear more wisdom from you in the future. Best regards!

How do you manually get rid of the left behind plops? I have trouble finding and fixing them when I zoom into the wave form.

By the way, you should try ClickRepair RT. It removes clicks real time, while you are playing a record. Would like to see a video on that.

@@thedelwoodchannel8610 I fully agree, but the price tag of just over AUD 500.00 [Aussie Dollars] is a bit much. There's also a problem downloading it on a Mac.

The trouble with RT Is, You cannot Record the Filtered sound from It. It will remove click and pops In real time, but just for playback only. The Finished recording has to go through the Main Program. I still use ClickRepair RT and Main Program, just for removing Clicks and Pops. Then I use Izotope R7pro, to remove everything else. And the Beauty Is No Artifacts. Here Is just one of the Thousands on my channel, Just to get an Idea of what You can achieve. This High In Siblance and a Pretty rough and well played Record. kzitem.info/news/bejne/pY6V05mrhqJ4pWk

I know this is 4 years old , and thanks for doing this. I will point out you rambled on for 24 minutes and I did not hear a single comparison of RAW vs Click vs Wave. You can see how that is a pretty obvious oversight, while sure your opinion is fine, some people like to hear it through their own ears.

Very sad. His legacy will live on however. I bought my fully licensed version of ClickRepair over ten years ago, and it remains, far and away, the best program for bringing older vinyl into the digital age. All the best to you Brian if you're able to read this. Thank you for helping me to enjoy my music.
