In this video i will show how to remove bad blocks from a damaged hard drives using badblocks, you are going to need to use Linux since windows cant deal with damaged hardrives at all.
If you do not know how to use Linux you can just create a bootable USB using rufus.
Badblock is used to test hardrives, most of the time damaged sectors are not a big problem and you can get rid of them by just running it for a few seconds, worst case scenario a whole pass.
It does this by writing nonstop to them, if a problem is detected the hard drives will correct themselves unless they are beyond repair, for example Seagate rosewood drives are unrecoverable 100% of the time.
And remember, this will erase 100% whatever you have on your HDD.
The command used was:
badblocks /dev/sda -wsv
"/dev/sda" was used to tell badblocks to work on the "sda" disk, you can replace it if your disk has a different letter (sdb, sdc, etc).
"-wsv" is used to run the test as "write" mode, this is needed to force bad block remaping.
FAQ:
"Can i do this on Windows?"
Not at all, Windows usually freezes when it detects a hard drive error unlike Linux.
"How do i create a Linux USB"
Download Linux Mint .iso:
www.linuxmint.com/edition.php...
Download Rufus:
github.com/pbatard/rufus/rele...
Select the ISO while you have a USB connected and click start, note this will format the USB.
Done you have a Linux USB ready, You do not need to install Linux to use it, how do you enter to it is different for every brand, just look for your motherboard/laptop brand and "boot menu" in google.
"Will this work with any HDD?"
Any HDD with minor platter damage, head damage is another whole problem and your HDD needs to be replaced for good.
