I'm upgrading the carburetor on my Triumph Spitfire 1500, from the old Zenith Stromberg to a pair of SU HS4s. These are the carbs that are meant to go with this engine and came on the European version of the car. US cars were greatly downtuned. In order do all this, I'm having to remove the extra emissions gear on the engine, which actually didn't make the engine any cleaner. It just diluted the emissions enough to trick the sensors.
In this video I show how I did it. Total cost to remove emissions is less than $5 (not including the carbs). Also I addressed pressure buildup in the gas tank, which was a simple 20 minute job cleaning a couple of restrictor valves.
Update - I got the carbs all tuned up and it drives like a new car. Starts up right away, runs smoothly and has a lot more power. Stock US engines only had about 50hp (remember this is a lightweight car so doesn't need a ton of hp), and this carb upgrade adds almost 20 more horses.
