Adam, use stainless nipples, out of the bungs, connect whatever to them. That way the corrosion is not at the tank, like last time. But somewhere you can fix easier. Also use the liquid Teflon pipe dope, on the threads, as stainless has a bad habit of galling the threads at the least provocation. Best wishes from the far North.

Working inside a RV in hot humid weather very unpleasant, Been through several RV projects, water systems, Black tank repairs, AC repairs, electrical etc., My advice ditch all the copper from that tank, which it sounded like you were gonna do, that is alot of weight vibrating on those fittings when traveling, just asking for that solder to let loose or crack, reinforced hose or pex on the nipples you weld on that tank. On a side note, plumbing, after your pump if you hear alot of noise/vibration when water pump is on vibrating/pulsing your lines, which is normal, add about 6-8 feet of reinforced clear hose coiled up and pump will be very quiet. Just hook hose onto outlet of pump, coil it up on floor and hook into water to RV. It absorbs the vibration from RV water pump ALOT..

All very good advice, I do intend on completely plumbing this someday, and I will likely just use PEX because I really like the PEX product a lot.

Good video Adam just wondering would a plastic tank work better seeing it's out of Goliath? If not, hope it all works out for you .👍👍

Ideally, stainless will last way longer than the plastic wheel. Once we repair it correctly, it should be fine. And finding a premade tank to fit this custom application would be very challenging.

great vid Adam nice job getting the tank out also if that tank gives you any issues down the road you should look at the polypropylene tanks things last forever and no rust.

What about one of those modular rainwater tanks (plastic) - Be lighter ... and seemingly pretty strong (at least the ones here in Oz)
@amsoiladam

That might be an option someday. But these were custom built to fit in their spot. Trying to find something this exact size could be tricky.

Must not be a very pure stainless if it's rusting away. Try using cpvc fittings and pipe. Will never rust and or get metal type contamination and will handle vibration better.
@amsoiladam

It turns out it wasn’t the tank at all. But they used black iron fittings or something similar, so it was just the fittings that were rusting. And some of the weld splatter that was stuck to the tank.

Maybe see if you can get a fiberglass tank that size. It won't rust.
@amsoiladam

I don’t think the tank itself is actually rusting, however, the fittings that were installed into it were steel fittings and that’s where the rest was coming from. We are going to remove those and weld in stainless steel fittings and that should eliminate the problem.

Not that I can tell, and I do sanitize the tank periodically. Which probably accelerated the corrosion on these fittings.
