I have a 1/4 acre pond behind that developed this same algae as shown in this video. completly covered my pond. My wife and I have spent the last two weeks raking each day with a regular garden rake. We finally got it all raked off with the help of the wind blowing it close enough to the bank so we could reach out and rake it in. I'm buying this rake that Bruce shows here. And, will never again let it get out-of-control before I take action. Thanks Bruce !

John Turner where do you buy the rake?

Hats off to you both for all your relentless diligent tending to your algae issue. I KNOW how much work it is removing FA mats covering my pond by hand (with a standard iron rake, or a basic leaf rake, but I AM buying a landscaping rake very soon).

@@larrysmith956 Larry, if you haven't found one yet, or if anyone else is curious where to buy, I recommend supporting your local ACE hardware store. They run right around $50 for a 36" rake, which is about the same price I found online. Get yourself some thick Styrofoam, scrap building insulation "blocks", and cut a big enough piece to make the rake float really well.

My half acre pond started having really bad algae blooms, we sprayed it several times, it would go away but would return within a month. Added 2 aerators and that helped a bit. Had a company pump the muck out of the shallow areas. Haven't not had any algae in 2 years now.

I was happy with all the algae I pulled out as it was good to make biodiesel.

It's not a new magic pump. I believe a common centrifugal trash pump will do the job. They're available to rent at most rental places.

Good video. Do you have any idea on how to get rid of duck weed without days of racking and fishing them out of the lagoon

I have called Weeders Digest twice this week to find out more information as to how this works. They say they will call me back but never do. Very disappointed. I purchased one of their rakes anyway.

Cool deal but won't putting it on your lawn return a large portion of phosphorus to the lake? (runoff)

yea some of it but you have removed lots and lots of fixed algea and he didn´t use all the algea on his lawn so a major nutrient break for the lake which is good

Is it possible to "create" a sustainable ecology in a lake like that? I'm talking about a lake/pond where there is a food chain and fish breeding? Fish for eating on the bar-B ie. sports fishing?

I suspect that you could compost the algae and even feed the algae to your chickens.

why kill it ? You are half way there to becoming totally green , if you can keep it growing year round ! with collection system and some modifications to your home and car , all your utilities and fuel would be free ! ...except for the collection system and modifications to your house and vehicles

5:30 - Burning it isn't "bad" to the environment... As it decays, it releases just as much CO2 (not to mention methane and other pollutants) as you'd get from burning it.
