As a veteran of several restoration projects, here's my recommendation. Start with the body work. Only remove what you have to. Don't go taking the car apart completely. Work one system at a time. Yes, you might have to take things on and off several times but it is so worth it. Stay organized and don't get distracted by other things that need doing. New sub. Keep it ip!

Yes for a beginner it would not be wise to strip the car down. I think that is how a lot of beginner restorers get discouraged. I think he should clean up that floor and get some pans installed in there first. Actually it is probably a good idea to clean up the whole car first so he is not wallowing in filth every time he is doing something.

@@johnfranklin5277 Couldn't tell you. It all depends on the person in charge, what they can do themselves, who they know and enlist to help, and what kinds of deals are gotten when acquiring parts and tools. But if they put the floor in themselves, and then just go through the brakes, steering and maybe suspension bushings, and the carburetor andsecondary ignition, it could be on the road for maybe even less than $1000 if they do all the work. A big maybe... A few to several thousand more dollars spent right could make it a nice car. Full concourse? Couldn't tell you.

Glad to see the old girl inside now and a step forward. They do make a complete left-side floorpan. They also make an entire single floorpan that covers both sides. I hear that is actually easier to weld in and match up once you get it in the car. I replaced most of the left-side floorpan on my car and part of the right side. It is not too hard. The seat riser is a separate piece which you will need also. A couple of lessons learned from another newbie. First, there are brackets for the parking brake which are welded to the floors under the car. Make sure to note where those are so you don't cut through them and where to reinstall later. Second, don't forget there are fuel lines and brake lines running under there as well. I would recommend replacing those any way so go ahead and remove these before you start cutting out the rusty metal. If you are going to be replacing the floors anyway, I strongly urge you to also check the condition of your torque boxes. These are structural parts of the car and are located between the front wheel wells, toe boards, front frame rails, and floorpan. You want to make sure these are strong and not rusted out. Good luck. Also bagging all the screws, washers, clips and so with labels will be a god send later. Also take lots of pictures.

It's really cool that you're trying to do this for the sentimental value of your father. Doing is learning. I have worked on and restored these cars for over 40 years,. Any help I can provide, I will be happy to do so. Very happy to see a younger generation diving into this. I can tell you floor pans are normal for rusting out, especially the drivers. The next thing you need to check is the driver's torque box ( the passenger looked decent in the video where you removed the seat). It is located under your left foot, if you are sitting in the car and driving. This ties the front frame (where the engine mounts), to the rocker panel (underneath where the door closes. You need to check the frames and the torque boxes. These are the strength of a unibody car (which is what these are). Also need to check the rear frames (where the leaf springs bolt on). These are usually rusted towards the end where the leaf springs mount. Everything, and I mean everything is a available for this car used and new (NPD in Ocala, Maryland Mustang, etc.). If the tunnel is good (The U hump of metal where the shifter comes through), you can buy full or half floor pans and just replace what you need. Cowl (where the fresh air comes in behind and under the dash) is another hot spot for rust and no fun to fix. Keep at it, slow and steady. Get her all stripped down, and check out all the metal you need to fix. Prioritize, and tackle one problem at a time. Little by little you'll get it. Welcome to World Ford. Again, any help I can provide, I will be happy to do so and send you my contact info.
