Don't loosen the carrier frame bolts ! Mercedes says to remove the front differential, rack comes out VERY easy through the passenger side .. I just did this job on my ML320. He did WAY more work than needed. Follow the Mercedes service manual this job takes about 10 hours on your back in the driveway and about 6 hours on a lift.

I’m gonna do this tonight. I haven’t got under there but I also think removing the front diff will be good enough but I’m wondering if just removing the steering knuckle on either side would be enough? I’ll find out I guess.

@@lidia6314 It won't come out without removing the diff. I'll write out the procedure if you like

@@kawomat You will have to remove all the bolts that hold the diff in including the prop shaft bolts. The diff weighs about 50 lbs and is easily removed with a floor jack. It's not difficult to remove and will make the rack replacement soooooooo much easier.

Hey man, how did you undo the bolt that attached the subframes to the main chassis of the car?

If there are no leaks (check everywhere) I’d start by replacing the PS fluid and bleeding the system properly. If that doesn’t work I’d replace the PS pump.... Go and buy a few bottles of PS fluid from Mercedes because it the best stuff to use and it’s not that expensive from them either.... Good luck.
