Ha! I wish it was always that easy. Just the other day myself and 3 other guys spent hours using everything from sledge hammers and torches to pry bars and air hammers trying to remove a hub assembly from my subaru. Ended up beating on the thing so badly that the hub seperated. I had to remove the knuckle and bring it to my buddies shop to press it out. It took so much force that the press was visibly deflecting and the remainder of the hub shot out and took a chip out of the concrete floor. Needless to say I never-seized the shit out of the new one before installing it.

PFFT!!! - he must be in southern california or something - good frigging luck trying that with any car that has spent time in New England where they dump 17 tons of salt per mile on the roads in winter. ive done subaru wheel bearings where ive had to spend a half and hour beating them to pulp with a 6 pound sledge and a long stroke air hammer plus knocking out a lug stud and using a nut and bolt as a jack screw. they are not going budge the way this dude is showing unless the car is pretty new or someone changed them before and plastered them with never seize.
@BCABearings

Yeah, we hear this a lot here in the Chicago area too. Road salt increases the effect of galvanic corrosion between the aluminum knuckle and the steel hub, which can be a nightmare to deal with. This technique can be helpful in some cases, but there is no substitution for breaking out the sledge (or torch), or using other more impactful methods when faced with severe corrosion.
@aaronwilcox6417

This might work in areas where there's no rust but they can be impossible where they use salt in winter roads like rust belt. I'm calling BULL on this. I use an hub removal tool and 10 pound sledge hammer to shock the hub assembly off my Dana 60 axles on my trucks. They're not aluminum so it's not going to damage them. Also I don't care if I damage a ball joint. If they are damaged I'll just install a new one because it's not that big of deal.

Whack out 2 lug nut studs and replace with 1/2" bolt/washer/nut setup. Spray bearing housing with penetrating oil and wait a minute. Crank evenly between the two bolts and the bearing hub will walk itself out EVERY TIME. this process takes ten minutes instead of an entire day with a stupid slide hammer Please send me $50 thanks

Your correct sir where to use the air hammer to get the hub to rotate another way is by using 2 sledgehammers lay 1 on an ear of the hub and strike the sledgehammer laying on the ear of the hub.Used this way before I owned an air hammer just my 2 cents
@gregorytimmons4777

If you are talking about striking one hammer face with another that is very unsafe due to the fact that they are hardened tool surfaces and when struck together can shatter sending metal shrapnel flying. Even safety glasses won't prevent a shard of sharp hardened metal from embedding itself into your neck.

That's not an air hammer, that's an air chisel (I'm talking about the tool itself, not the choice of tip he had mounted in it) and is basically useless for this type of operation. Far too underpowered. You'd basically be giving that corrosion a nice light massage with that thing. There's another video on YT where they perform this operation, with the knuckle still mounted in the vehicle, and it took two guys, with two real air hammers, going at it from opposite sides rotationally speaking, and both really leaning into the job, before that hub broke loose. They had to switch rotation directions a few times too before that thing was good and loose.
