Please do not quit. It is good content man. Probably my favorite car on your channel since the hellcat. That car was a total keeper. Wish you had kept it….I bet you think so as well. I have been into the 92-94 Audi S4 for ever, also the 95 Audi S6 they are very similar cars and both share the AAN 20vt inline 5cyl turbo. The motor is legendary and Volvo stayed in the 5cyl game longer than Audi. The V70R runs the k24 7400 from borgwarner. A bunch of Audi guys run a modified version of that turbo and make amazing power without sacrificing spool. My newest edition and current keeper status car came home March and is a 93 S4 with a nice gtx3071 with custom software. Get your maintenance done and crank up the boost with a little exhaust work. You will get hooked and your channel will approve. Peace!

That turbo coolant line has two copper washers, which are good at absorbing shock from the impact gun. That's probably why they were so difficult to remove. They don't take much torque, I believe it's 25nm. I usually remove them no problem with hand tools.

It's hilarious to watch how paralleled your repairs and experience are to my own v70r I bought early last year. AWD issue, SAS repair, PCV, brakes, so many things I've done just to see a video from you a few weeks after. Important note, the listed way in VIDA to bleed the brakes is actually opposite the normal bleed process, starting with front left inner caliper, then going inner to outter caliper on each, finishing on the rear right. Something that also helped my pedal feel was "burping" the abs/bcm. Build pressure with the pedal same as bleeding the brakes, then crack the lines going to the bcm. I think there was a good video on here from Peppermint of the process

Bad bad practice to pump to the floor on a used master cylinder. The piston travels into a normally unused area in the bore where there is debris and will accelerate seal failure. You should only pump about half way or use a cheap vacuum bleeder. Also, it’s a good idea to perform an ABS bleed procedure on a car with an uncertain history or if the system has been opened or air has entered before the modulator
@rex_s80
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had a bit of a soft pedal so I went out on a private road and did a few hard braking stops where the abs would trigger and it started to feel different. I bleed them again and it got more air out and felt better. It’s been much better since . I change my brake fluid every few years since they weren’t maintained before but luckily no signs of rust or leaks so far in the hardline when I replaced one (the soft lines had links at the fittings so I replaced them and one was seized on the hardline but the lines are on separate sections)

its a lot simpler than that. I didn't need an impact for any of the bolts. Don't bother disconnecting the exh flex tube from exh manifold. Leave the cast iron exh side of the turbo in place, the turbo splits in 2 parts by just 1 bolt on the collar that holds the 2 halves together. Only remove the alum front half of the turbo. that's why they used the collar to connect the 2 halves . Ah well, too late. Then remove the big circlip to pull the cartridge out, buy rebuilt/balanced cartridge from ebay $190, install and put it back. You can rebuild the cartridge with the $60 kit that contains new seals etc , on mine the shaft had broke so it was junk. The low profile ratchet wrench from HF was required to loosen banjo bolts from below, other than that, I am a retired baker, not a mechanic. Reinstalling the oil drain tube can be very frustrating, its recommended to use extended ball end allen socket 3/8th drive. With 2 people its easier. I'm not certain the smoke is from the turbo, could be valve guides too.

One thing you are going to learn soon is that a Volvo is never not broken. An example is the ‘98 V70 GLT parked in front of my house. It is on it’s third transmission, has a headliner that doesn’t exist, and the bolts holding the AC condenser fell out while driving one day so the AC doesn’t work. But wait, there’s more, one of the lifters sounds like it wants to be space debris and there is a ghost code regarding the EVAP system that makes it incredibly difficult to smog in CA. The reason I would put up with it is because I love it and when they work they’re very nice.

When I had that car new it had a little oil in the charge pipe. I took it to the dealer under warranty and they swore it was normal. Talking with other owners I found it was common. Never seen that on any of my other Turbos. While you've got it out, you should replace the engine bushings. I got a nice set of polyurethane ones from IPD.

So funny... could have been so much more simpler if you would have grouped the fixes rather than one offing them...but does not deter the Volvo love!

SO what happens after you replace the turbo and it's still blowing smoke? Time for a new engine?

I would hate to know the dealer cost for this repair!

Ever hear of a gravity feed bleed job. Simple. Ya gotta modify a supply to the reservoir. Feed that a few liters and open all the bleeders. Takes about 5 hrs no labour.

Dealer book is 6 hrs labor for this job, they pull the front driveshafts and the bevel or angle gear box out , that makes it a whole lot easier to get at everything. Its probably faster in the end, we try to save time and ends up taking days.

There is nothing mechanically wrong with the Volvo. It's just pissed you haven't painted it and it will not drive well until you do.

there are a lot of company's doing rebuild but duke city turbo bricks is one of the only ones spin balancing the whole chra to 120k rpm. the turbos he builds can run more then 2x the boost they can run pre modification.

Good video, however I was greatly disappointed that you do not wear safety glasses when working on the car. You are a bad example for your viewers.

I'm sure the turbo could use a service but this problem reminds me of a Volvo I worked on years ago. It was a turbo that was smoking really bad and all it was was a clogged port where that vacuum line attaches at the middle of the turbo. It got clogged up.

At 15:00 into the video, uncle said “I got the easy one”. To that point, ALWAYS do the hardest one first.

Also, now would be a great time to potentially upgrade the turbo, while its out! Perhaps not so much to need to tune the ECU for it, but maybe a little more pep in it's step!

Wow! That looked like an ordeal!! And, you've still got to get the turbo back in once it's back. I'm really looking forward to seeing it running the way it should and excited to see it painted and looking fresh. I still think it deserves a Volvo touring car racer livery 😁

Why do you do many jobs on the floor like bleeding the brakes when you have a ramp available? I know you could use a 2 post ramp for ease but even the 4 posts are easier than the floor
