RadPower had a great video to show how to do this BUT when they pulled the wheel out, it came out like butter. Thank you for giving me the confidence and instruction on how to remove a stuck wheel! Some lubricant, a rubber mallet and then a buddy to hold the bike in place while I pulled the tire did the trick. I can't imagine doing this on the trail!

Thanks Jeff! No kidding huh. Personally, I get the drop out protection to a point, but I've never had a bike rear well just fall off. No matter, they need to find an easier way to change the rear tire or put a run flat on the rear tire! After all, it's 4X larger than a standard tire so your odds are 4x greater you'll get a flat (while traveling at least 2X faster).

I wrestled with the same stuck wheel. I finally discovered that the flat sides of the axle were not aligned with the dropout slots and were digging into the soft aluminum of the frame. Be sure to check this and rotate the hub to straighten out the flat sides with the frame slots before you resort to using a hammer. If you bugger up those soft aluminum slots, you will need to install some steel torque arms to reinforce the frame and avoid catastrophic hub / motor 'spin-outs'.

Running without the torque arm is exacerbating your problem. The torque of the motor is causing the tabs on the torque washers to jam into the frame drop-outs. Either replace the broken bolt and reinstall the factory torque arm. or install some aftermarket ones. You will find the wheel a lot easier to remove plus it will save your frame.

Use a rotating wire brush to clean off the dropouts on your frame. This not only includes all the caked on crud but also the factory paint. Pay special attention to the area of the dropouts that face inward (toward your wheel hubs). I've seen many axles bind at the dropouts here before. Lightly wire brush your axles at these contact ends too. When done lightly lubricate these points before replacing the wheel into the dropouts.

Just came across your vid and it may have been addressed but I think your biggest problem is trying to remove the tire with one hand. If you have to use a mallet, something is most likely not lined up correctly. If you had to drill out the slots where the rear wheel sets in then it probably wasn’t lined up square going back on. I’d just caution others that it’s much easier using 2 hands and that you don’t have to drill anything. I’ve changed hundreds of rear wheels on a bike and when it doesn’t go in, its always an alignment issue.

Took the day off of work, expecting my Rad Rover to arrive. Ordered it last week and have been watching videos and learning as much as I can about it. I have watched almost all of your videos. Why I enjoy watching you ride home eludes me but I do. :) That looks like an awesome path to work you have though. I did buy the Mr. Tuffy's so will need to remove the tire to install it hence watching this video. I wanted to let you know that one guy who has been helping me said he uses Mr. Tuffy along with Stans instead of the green slime. I think it is much lighter and not as sloppy but that is only going by what I read. Stan's NoTubes Sealant--2oz (two 2 oz bottles per tire) He puts it in his tubes even though it says for tubeless. Unsure I will do this myself but the information is there.:) I enjoy your conversations when riding. I know you us your S7 Edge, same phone I use, for some filming, how do you get the audio? I have my old Note 4 I think I am going to mount permanently on the bike. It won't be online but should make a great GPS to use with offline apps. One more thing... My bike didn't have that steel torque reinforcement piece that you removed. As a result, my soft aluminum fallout slots were ruined by the torque from that Bafang hub motor. You had better put some steel torque arms on or you'll be stuck on the road with a ruined frame.

@@smidgelife Sounds to me like having previously removed the torque arm & left it off, allowed the axle to spin slightly in the frame slots. That's why the torque arm is there, to prevent that situation. Because the axle is not round, (it has 2 flat sides) If it turns in the slot (and it will given enough motor torque,) the threaded sides of the axle bite into the aluminum frame slots. Filing or drilling out the slots would only make the situation worse especially without any torque arm installed. hope you resolved that issue before the situation got a whole lot worse!

The bore in the frame that houses the axel may be slightly deforming under loading (your weight-shock/static loading). The bore could deform (oblong) by just +/- .002" especially if the frame is a soft metal. Also, your weight is not the problem, we should all be so thin. So the cheap fix is to use a mallet. There is always a way but it would increase the cost of the bike.

What if you put ONE of the "anti rotate" washers on the OUTSIDE of the frame. I've done this on a different emotor setup when the framework was to tight, pinching the wheel in place. The 'wrench on axle' wiggle method also helps. Axle nuts should be retightened after a quick shakedown run, then checked for tightness once a week. Especially if the proprietary Rad Rover torque lock brackets have been deleted. ✌

He was running the bike without the torque arm installed. SO the axle gets twisted in the slot over time & the threads bite into the frame slots. In addition he drilled out the slots making them wider which only allowed for additional rotation of the axle over time. Trouble is inevitable running the bike without the torque arm. If the screw holding the torque arm broke or the hole was stripped then that should have been repaired ASAP before running the bike again.

Thanks, I did reach out to Rad Bikes and they would only state what their sizing chart states and that since I am only 1 inches over the recommended height that it would it. The biggest complaint I see about the EBikes from Rad is the shipping, when the customers get the bike that it arrives in a really crashed up box, one guy his bike arrived and the bottom of the box fell out and he tracked his shipment and said that his bike made 15 stops before it arrived and he only lives in the middle of the country. His bike and others have said the front is usually the part of the bike that comes damaged, bent front ends. I live on the east coast and wonder how mine wil arrive. Back to your video, I just watched your video on changing the brake pads, seems like the bike is easy to work on. I have to watch your video on reinforcing the inner wall of the tires to help prevent flats. I'd be using the bike 85% on the road surface and sidewalks.
