THe Dremel 300 tool is prone to failure when the commutator brushes jam in their housing. THey cannot be removed for replacement as intended and the tool does not run, or runs intermittently or roughly. The only alternative is to take the tool apart and clear out the old jammed/melted brushes to make way for new ones. Here, I show you how. Bad design, defective product, not sure if the other Dremel tools have this problem. One thing I forgot to mention is that I polished up the commutator (the bright copper ring that the brushes rub against). \
Sadly, replacing the brushes did not fix the problem, so in the trash it goes. This was not a well made tool. I ordered a Black and Decker which is much less expensive and has really good reviews--it too will probably only last a year, but for just $30. I can just buy a new one. Even the most expensive Proxxon tool at 4x the price has bad reviews relating to durability. America, home of the disposable.
