This beautiful man (Ren) has enabled us to have important conversations that are hard. Yes these songs are sad and emotional but look at us! We’re talking and crying together! And this is what may actually save some who are in a dark place. He has enlightened us and is making it ok to be vulnerable and say the hard things. This was a beautiful reaction. Thank you ❤

I totally agree with previous comments both of you have such beautiful hearts. Your reactions are honest and reveal your vulnerability and empathy. Ren went to school with my daughter so as you can imagine I am very familiar with his history. We are very proud of him, he has just donated £21,000 to the RNLI volunteer service in my home town, these men & women put their own lives at risk Daily rescuing people in difficulty on the sea. They were called out the night Joe jumped and in the darkness in spite of far from calm waters spent all night and all day for 7 days trying to find him but sadly the ocean had claimed him. In addition he gave Joe’s parents £8,000. I believe Ren is a musical genius, it’s a privilege to be living when he is with us creating these masterpieces. Please continue reacting exactly as you do now, there is no shame in crying, we all cry along with you 🤗 x

I come to this channel because of the great empathy you two have, so it is understandable that it affects you so much. I am just like that, I always cry like a baby. However, as tragic as Ren‘s loss (and every other story of people deciding to take their lives) are, I don’t think that this song is all about sadness and grief. In the end, there is a positive message. Ren knows that Joe played a big part in becoming the person he is today, and he might still do as his freckled guardian angel. This song is also very much about acceptance, and if I understand Ren right, he is not suffering anymore from this terrible loss, but he is holding Joe in loving memory.

Thank you so much for your genuine and heartfelt reaction. I really appreciate your honesty, and watching you two interact with each other during the performance was heart-warming. You two are such beautiful souls. My younger self used to avoid showing vulnerability, but at 57 y/o I have stopped caring about what others might think and will show my emotions without it making me question my toughness. This song, like many other pieces, evokes a visceral reaction in me. Ren’s song "Su!cIde" gutted me, and I was not able to watch or listen to it again until now. I have not even been able to watch a single reaction to it. It was a sad, haunting, gut-wrenching tribute. My best friend took his life 38 years ago. However, after listening to "To Joe" several times, I came to the realization that as sad and emotional as this song is, it has had a healing effect on me and has given me a sense of closure. Even the lyrics of the epilogue from "Su!cIde" that "gutted" me impacted me differently this time around. Anthony Ray (@AnthonyRay) said after reacting to this performance (I am paraphrasing) that he felt that after all these years, Ren seems to have found a measure of acceptance regarding the loss of his best friend. Anthony's comment suddenly made me aware of the song's impact on me, and I am actually able to watch or listen to "Su!cIde" again. Although I will probably not watch any reactions to it, as I consider this song to be much too personal, and watching someone else's grief would only compound my pain. Thomas Goldschmidt (@thomasgoldschmidt298) remarked, "For Joe" is a continuation of "Su!cIde," displaying the five stages of grief, adding acceptance to the end of his last song…..This song and the sobbing hug he received from Joe's mom after showing the video bring closure to all involved! I think ending "To Joe" with lines from "Freckles Angels" left me with a more optimistic outlook. It is as if Ren is trying to tell us that even though some of our loved ones are physically gone from our life, their memory continues to live in and through us. I think that is why I got a sense of closure and peace.

Oh my goodness - you two are just so lovely, you touch my heart you really do. For what it's worth I see this as a process of closure: the song began with his most recent song and ends with the song he wrote just after Joe's death - symbolic I think of a sense of closure. You are empaths - you feel other people's pain - maybe cheer yourselves up with Ren and Sam busking improvising on Stevie Wonder - it's very entertaining ☮

Ren is amazing in that eve if people have not gone through the things that inspired his songs there is always something in the song that resignates with you. You were exactly right if I understood what I thought you were trying to say about Rens music. Great reaction! If you watch the Knox interview Ren intellectually and logically knows there wasn’t anything he could have done that night but emotionally is another thing… the empty cup. But notice there is a bottle of light (lights) to fill the empty cup. The previous produced video was dark and filled with pain and frustration. This starts with that pain but continues with what Joe and all his actions has taught and given Ren. That bottle of light to fill the empty cup. Not only a crafted masterpiece but preformed extremely well with the help from Sam.

You are not an idiot, Dominika. You are just a beautiful, empathic person. 🖤 I was waiting for your reaction to listen to this song for the first time. And yes, this is heartbreaking and so real. That's why Ren is special for so many people. Because he is real. For me, this has a bit different effect than to a girl you mentioned or any other person who has lost someone by taking their own life. For me it is just a heavy reminder that I have to stay in this world as long as possible, because I don't want people who love me to feel the way that Ren feels. Actually, that has always been the only reason for me still being alive, but hearing something like this - those words, the pain, the despair - it makes it even more realistic... Sending you lots of love, guys. 🖤

Firstly thank you for your empathy in this reaction. I always look forward to your Ren reactions. As a fire officer I've seen a few suicides during my career and it's never easy. It hurts and affects my firemen although they are total strangers, and after each one we get together and ask is everyone OK or need counselling or just time off to deal with the situation. I feel that mentally the victim is not in the right mindset, otherwise they would not do it. There's no way to make sense of this act if your not suffering yourself, I just feel so sad for them.

absolutely right. in joes despair i think he saved rens life. when you think of ren;s darkest days-23 hours a day curled up in pain, unable to keep food down, with little hope. how many of us would have chosen to end it-I would have- but because ren saw the pain joes suicide caused to his family and friends he couldn;t do that to his family. but then came the proper diagnoses, the donated stem cell transplant, the therapy in canada, and blowing up You Tube and ren is allowed to save a small sectionof the world. we owe Joe hughes a debt we will never be able to repay.

This was a heartfelt eulogy to his best friend Joe. So freakikng beautiful. I like that he pulled the first section from 'Suicide'. The middle played a bit against 'Dominoes'. At some point you need to stop thanking us. We should be thanking you for your videos 😂 And you're absolutely right - the tragic events that Ren has experienced, however cruel and testing they may have been, have moulded him to be the beautiful, open and expressive soul that we see today.
