TBH, I appreciate reactors that are honest and not a full fan of Ren from the get-go just as much as I appreciate those who are immediately blown away by his musical talent and storytelling abilities (90% of the reactors started out with Hi Ren). I'm glad to see now that you are willing to give him another chance and I have seen many people going from "not my cup of tea" to becoming huge fans. Maybe it will be the same for you, it's definitely worth giving it a try because it would be a huge loss if you wouldn't listen to at least a few more tracks that show you his versatility and, quite frankly, that he's a f****g amazing rapper! 😁 Additionally, he can sing (his voice is just amazing!), he can play several instruments (like seriously play them!), he produces 90% of his songs and beats himself, he jumps effortlessly through genres and bends them, he does a lot of his music live and in one-takes, some of his videos are better than movies - and all that while being fully independent and still struggling with his physical and mental health. And on top of it all, he is an intelligent, honest, lovely, and funny human being! If you want a classic introduction and a better understanding of Ren and his artistry, go to Hi Ren first. If you really want more rap first, check The Hunger, Genesis, Illest of our Times, What you Want (there are many more, but we'll hopefully get to that). I think you will get a ton of suggestions because Ren's catalog is huge! I am genuinely curious to see how it goes. You don't need to be dishonest only to please people - I really respect that - just do yourself the favour and give it a try! 😉✌

@@drethedreamer1 That is great..Hi Ren is an experience, not a song your going to bang in the whip. It is powerful. On the rap side, you may fall into the camp of liking only half of Ren's rap side. The half you may not like is his songs that he just does for fun/flex...I call them comedy bars. To stick to his rap rap, you will want to check out The Hunger, Murderer, Genesis and Power. I can understand why you were not smitten with this track, this was a TLDR song dropped after he had done a 8 chapter reading of his life experiences and struggles with his Illness. Ren is source of light to those of us whom suffer from a myriad of ailments and diseases. But make no mistake, Ren is a multi-genre, multi-instrumentalist, produces his own beats, directs his own videos, his vocals include Rap, Reggae, R&B, Pop, Rock and even Beatboxing. He truly is a once in a generation artist, it's quite common for reactors to be tepid in their first exposure to Ren. Often because like you, they get dropped into a track without a reference or context. Btw Ren is from Wales and spent much of his life living in Brighton, where he busked and was discovered and signed by Sony. Alas due to Ren contracting Lyme Disease via a tick bite and fell seriously ill, his contract was terminated. Ren spent years trying to figure out what was wrong with him, mis-diagnosed and given medications and treatments he didn't need, meanwhile the Lyme Disease ravaged his body and brain unabated. It wasn't till a Belgian doctor properly diagnosed him that Ren finally had his answer and thus began his search for proper treatment. This is where the Stem Cell Doctor came into his life and though a Stem Cell Transplant, Ren was given back his life and a semblance of day to day normalcy. As others have said, Ren's album "Sic Boi" charted #1 in the UK, going up against the likes of Drake and Rick Astley. Keep in mind he is totally independent, no radio play, no marketing or promotion, relying mostly on Reactors and Fans. He is a big supporter of Reactors and insures any copyright issues are dealt with quickly. Forgive my diatribe, but I do truly hope you take some time and do more Ren Reactions, for starters..."Hi-Ren", "Sic-Boi", "Tales of Jenny and Screech" (13 minute full version), "Money Game Part 1-3, "I Shot the Sheriff" (His band "The Big Push"), "Castles in the Sand" (This one is straight up Hip-Hop Rap and goes Hard)...These will give you a more linear and clear picture of Ren as an Artist.

His accent is British, specifically he is Welsh (also speaks Welsh) , but has spent most of his adulthood in Brighton England and absorbed that accent too. His life with undiagnosed/misdiagnosed illness WAS dark, and so is the song. But eventually he has found treatment and a level of recovery. And yes, after so much suffering, he forgives god for the illness which has added to his artistic vision, made him something the cute boy teen boy pop star he was contracted to be and being groomed for might never have matured to. The song is ultimately positive.

Bro, it's really hard to make that decision based on one song. Especially this song. For you, I'd suggest Ren's Halftime Nas Retake, or Losing It FISHER rap retake where he raps over a mostly instrumental track by EDM artist FISHER. Don't worry about "the type of rap" that it is, because he has seversongs that are different rap styles. And that's just talking about his rap. He also does Reggae, rock, storytelling. He's a musical chameleon. Lastly, it should be known that Ren is not a rapper, he just likes to rap, and write lyrics, and decided to do a hip hop album. The album is so much more than hip hop though. No hate here man! I respect your opinion, and you had a great reaction to it. Check out more Ren on your own time, just so you don't miss out. He is very special. If you choose to not react to more of his work, i respect that, but do yourself a favor and listen on your own time. Thank you, and have a great day!

Thanks boss I hear ya! For me I’m an old school hip hop head. I’m not a fan of people coming in using the culture and discarding it once it’s served thier needs. Not saying that’s Ren but to me if you get on wax and start rhyming words to me it’s hip hop and all I ask or care about is people give the culture it proper respect and homage. Not saying you can’t do other genres of music but in hip hop especially we have a long history of cultures and I won’t stand for it anymore. I do look forward to hearing more of his hip hop catalog and seeing how he honors one the genres he decides to create in!

He is fully independent, self taught who dtarted making beats at 12 years old and then started rapping because there wete no rappers in that small Welsh village. He had the singing vouce if an angel too and self yaughr on acoustic and electric and bass guitar as well as piano, drums abd a few others. If yoy want some pure rap do The Hunger or Wicked Ways. Don't deny yourself some growth. BTW this song was dobe while in Calgary, Canada for a year and a half getting treatment for brain damage and autoimmunity caused by Lyme disease.

As someone who knows what this guy brings to the table, as a musician myself, it's too much work to turn someone around after they've made a decision about an artist after hearing one song. When people get to know Ren as a rapper and start to understand all the layers, the doubles, triples, metaphors, internal rhyme schemes, etc. Every technical in Hip hop, he displays it. That's not my opinion. That's coming from so many in the industry. But someone else's words and opinions don't change someone elses. Hey man, you don't have to apologize for being honest, at least not to us, I respect you that much more and just dropped a sub! I'm an old head myself, been into hip-hop since the days of Run DMC, The Beasties and Public Enemy, trust me when I say, this kid is a true student of the culture, but he also does just about any genre you can think of, with a special love for 90s East Coast Hip-hop. And he's got a lot of tracks that are real talk about issues we face today, and he's big into community and lifting each other up. I would say at least give him one more shot. My suggestion, and it's just that, not trying to demand you do either of these tracks, would be either "The Hunger", which is a track he dropped a couple years ago when he was just starting to gain some popularity and people questioned whether he could "rap rap". I call it his rap resume', 2 in half minutes of straight bars, lots of flow switch ups, and crazy cadences. The other track would be "Genesis", another fairly short track, but it's usually the song that convinces even the hard core doubters of his hip-hop abilities, that Ren does indeed, deserves to be called a rapper. His pen is ridiculous too, I think you'll enjoy either of those tracks. Again, great reaction, and much respect for staying true to you!! ✌💚

Always be honest. Ren's pretty big on authenticity and, understandably, most of his fans are too. No art can be enjoyed by everyone, so there's nothing wrong with a song/person/band/etc not being a fit for you. As others commented, Ren is independent and a true lover of all sorts of music, so his discography is all over the place. I gravitate more towards his singing work or his storytelling. IDK your interest so it's hard to make a suggestion. There's one video that is a cover medley, mostly singing but with a little dead prez at the end, "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop" that is posted by his fomer band, The Big Push "Genesis" is a favorite for many hip-hop heads. "Ocean" by Ren & Eden Nash is a favorite of mine and mixes a few styles. "Seven Sins" is the introductory track of the recent Sick Boi album I love it because it's like 5 songs in one.

I appreciate you being honest, we can't all like the same stuff. I would say that Ren is worth a 2nd listen, no 2 tracks are the same. ✌️

Yeah it was my first time hearing and from what everyone has been saying probably not the place start. I’m gonna to give him another try though. Probably with the hunger or hi ren or both!

Ren isn't for everyone, but there's definitely a Ren for everyone. Maybe try something else, he's really a dope and genuine artist. If not, well, we've all got our own paths to travel. Good luck on yours.

@@drethedreamer1 Well, I hope you find something to groove to. This man has become the best, most diverse artist I've heard in my 58 years. And by all accounts he's a really solid human being.

So, I’m not one to comment on videos. But you listened to the wrong Ren video for your first experience. Troubles is good, but it’s like a filler chapter in the book of Ren. There are many other videos that you should watch that are way better than that. Hi Ren is a proper introduction to Ren, The Hunger is a video that will show you the many pockets that he can rap in. Ren is not just a rapper. He transcends genres. I really hope that you do listen to more of Ren. He is an amazing artist and has a lot of songs. None of them are alike. They are all unique in their own special way.

Great reaction and honest 👏 The man has a massive catalogue though across many genres but has much better rap songs than this. Try out ‘The Hunger’ it showcases many rap flows and cadences. It’s difficult to not judge a book by this cover but I’m really interested how you react to a second bite.

Yeah I’m always open to hear new stuff as long as it’s good lol. My background and main genre is hip hop staring back in the 90’s and R&B specifically the 90’s era. I’m looking to dive deeper into his catalog. I want to see how he adds to the culture. I love he can genre bend but if he is rapping I need to know what he co tributes to the culture of hip hop. Thanks for the requests they are coming, stay tuned!

Try The Hunger or Wicked Ways for his rapping skills. This song was the story of his illness, so probably not a good one to start with. Subbing to see if you give him another chance 💜

That’s what everyone in the comments are saying it’s been either start with, Hi ren, The Hunger, or Wicked ways. Either way will be revisiting his catalog which such a huge positive response from the community. I didn’t hate this song but just wasn’t hugely impressed looking forward to hearing his other tracks!
