It was our pleasure! We’ve had subscribers recommend some of your stuff to us as well so we will be getting to those after Ren’s birthday week of music is finished up. We’re excited, you’ve got a lot of talent! Hahah girl, you rock those things, I think you can handle them just fine! I’ve got little nubby nails and know I couldn’t manage without scratching everyone and everything in the surrounding area so I was nervous 😂

The 'floating chalk outline' refers to feeling dead inside, waiting for the next shoe to fall, feeling like it's just a matter of time. Doctors medicating you because it's easier than listening to you, believing you, and looking for the underlying cause. Love that you're doing a Ren week! 💞

This is similar to how I interpret it as well, though more as a result of the medication. Instead of feeding, it's like being hollow...an empty vessel...a person who's simply a chalk outline...someone dead inside. The line about being scared of being okay 'cause all things change hits hard because, like you said, when will the other shoe fall? If I get better, would I be able to handle it when I get worse again? A catch-22. Hating how you feel, but being terrified of change. Sharing these lyrics with my doctors has really helped me better identify and explain myself. So grateful that Ren has shared his pen with us.

Enjoyed the reaction and audio engineering lesson. The perspective on what chalk outlines means to you was one that I had not heard of or thought of before. To me it reflects on the way people feel when medicated, depressed, or just empty inside. To me it is talking about the feeling of just being dead inside or not able to feel anything at all, you still function somewhat and walk around, but the chalk outline is already there. Found the channel because of Ren, stayed because of you. Peace

My initial thought behind this song was kind of remeincing of simplier times “as we trace chalk outlines”. I think when Chinchilla was singing such a perfect day is where I got that impression. After editing the video and listening to the song more than once my perspective is more aligned with yours, especially with these lyrics right here “ Sertraline and a sip of serotonin Don't cry 'cause there's a Pill for everything take this one Wash it down and you'll be fine The feeling goes and you draw a chalk outline”
@Simon...........
Жыл бұрын
Agree, also there's been perspective that the visual plays into this inner mind too (we only have to look at other ren videos to see it's all tied together very well normally) Could the start of the video being him trying to find space in his mind to breathe. The books of information being the memories and knowledge in his head, the slight breeze representing the breath perhaps. The lights flicker as if to represent the demon inside again. The chair makes the loud snap as he snaps out of it to then explore the feelings inside his head. Another point if you look closely, is that Ren does sing each line at the beginning followed by an expression as if to say ... Is this okay? Are these thoughts? They are also both dressed in all white. She sits on the floor in the corner almost out of sight in his mind. I dunno. But one thing's for sure is this is indeed artwork because, as identified in this thread, people interpret art differently based on what It means to them. Same as you would interpret the meaning of a painting. You can't do that to most pop videos because it's 3 minute dance and a lit room that's it lol.. Ren however is an artist at creating the full package

Even the songs he did many years ago are all fantastic and deserve their moment in the spotlight too. Nah, you had it correct first time. The chalk outline is, indeed, the chalk outline an investigator draws around a dead body but Ren is using it as an analogy to the feeling induced by psychotropic medication. When Chinchilla sings " Setraline and a sip of Serotonin, don't cry 'cause there's a pill for everything, take this one wash it down and you'll be fine, the feeling goes when you draw a chalk outline " She is, ultimately, saying the anti-depressants literally kill the feeling of being " alive " ( and treating the symptom rather than the cause ) .... it is a very deep song. Glad you are enjoying Ren .... and so pleased you like the duet with Chinchilla. You are right, their voices sit so well together. Try HOW TO BE ME which, in my opinion, is their strongest duet to date. It is a beautifully sad song about Ren's friend who took his own life by jumping from a bridge. Apparently the body was never recovered. If you notice, they are actually singing on a bridge 😊Their timing is outstanding and as great as it is technically, it is even better in its emotiveness. Blessings 🙏

The chalk outlines are a mixture of actual chalk outlines around the deceased, a virtual death from the suppression of self from overmedication, from certain types of medication, from self selected recreational addictions, and the make up of the pills - a zip of serotonin in a chalk outline. You can also feel like you are the walking dead just from emotional fatigue and stress without any assistance from substances as well. I feel that Ren has been heavily medicated by his care providers, as well as self medicating - Chincilla obviously was feeling this too, so I assume there is some similarity and common ground there, clearly from their chemistry and there is far more to this for both than just singing lyrics from a page. This one gets me in the first ... broken line, with a dead silence buried right in the middle of it.

NO, there was nothing "happy" about this song, just about every single line alluded to mental illness, from wishing you were someone else in the morning to standing on your toes in the gallows to breathe to putting on a fake smile as a facade to being scared of being OK. Your first instinct was correct with "chalk outline" referring to death, except Ren used it to mean dead on the inside.

So we purposely haven't done NF yet because I'm afraid that it's straight rap which I think Ren is the most I can withstand.
