Hi, old video so I dont expect you to reply but on these engines can you get the head skimmed for higher compression or will it have problems with the valve to piston clearance, with running cams too
@AndyEder

@Lewis Hall - you can get the head skimmed but it's easy to go too far and then run into problems down the line. They are quite a 'fragile' / highly-strung engine (already effectively being a bored-out 1.8l to make it a 2.0l). Clearance can indeed be a problem and you may have to consider the pocketing on the pistons to ensure correct valve clearance. Definitely seek some additional advice from someone who knows these engines inside out though as I'm NOT an expert in the F4R. Even after 5 engine builds now...

How does the torque feel vs stock intake runners? Since these are much shorter now?
@AndyEder
3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I understand - these aren't shorter intake runners and the stock setup is a single throttle body? The torque levels increased by approximately 20lbft (could have perhaps grabbed a few more with longer trumpets).

@@AndyEder yes I am aware stock is one I was just assuming that the vstack height/length was less than stock intake runner length overall just looking at the stock manifold. That is why I am curious how it picked up that torque ...normally shorter intake path moves the torque curve higher in the rev range.

@@cr4zyw3ld3r Ah, gotcha. Unfortunately I don't have any of that technical data to hand (nor can I remember any of the figures) as the life of the engine was, shall we say, somewhat short-lived! I do have some dyno prints somewhere that show the engine performance in stock form, then with Jenvey DTH ITBs and then with this particular high-comp setup (as per this video). Admittedly the runs were not made at the same time and have little value other than perhaps identifying general trends in how the performance is delivered (rather than absolute figures). As to where those dyno prints are though...

@@AndyEder no worries mate, I am doing a custom design for my craptastic MR20DE engine and it seems I need longer intake runners to keep it in that streetable sweet spot otherwise aside from better throttle response it is not too useful to have most of the power up top since this car will not see a track.
@AndyEder

@@cr4zyw3ld3r Yeah, that makes sense mate - totally understand why you are looking to nail that sweet spot. I won't pretend to be an expert (I'm not!) as I only know the basics hence reliant on specialists to do the work on my behalf. Or not in some cases! Sorry I cannot offer anything more useful or a better insight. When the engine is this video let go the car went into the workshop... and I still haven't got it back to this day. It's due home, finally, at the end of this month! All the best with your project and custom design fella. Enjoy it!

Could you refer me to a renaultsport specialist in s.wales area?
@AndyEder

+Kingsley Thomas - I am not aware of any RenaultSport specialists in the South Wales area unfortunately. I usually have to travel some distance to get mine looked at. I think there's one or two in the Bristol area but I don't know their details. Sorry!

I have a 2.0 16v F4RT in my megane what's the best mods to get 200+ BHP.

These things are very expensive to tune but hey if you’ve got the money why not these 182’s are the last of the proper hot hatches newer stuff is way to heavy and Lardy.

Very nice conversion! As you know this is the only way to seriously up the Bhp of a 182 their very expensive to tune!

+Robcatist Thanks mate. Sadly this build didn't work out after an unfortunate engine failure brought the whole thing to a premature end. My new engine build has just been completed so hopefully I'll have more luck with that one. After two ITB conversions I've decided to go turbocharged this time.

+Andy Eder Are you dropping a Megane lump in it or getting a turbo and starting from scratch?
@AndyEder
8 жыл бұрын
+Robcatist No mate - starting with a fresh Clio F4R lump that has been machined and adapted to suit my needs. It's been matched to a Clio 197 inlet manifold and Megane 225 head. Forged CP pistons and Arrow conrods.

+Andy Eder Nice, sounds like you know abit about building these engines. Looks like you've got the RS 192 exhaust same as mine.

+Robcatist I know a bit, but not enough to do the work myself! I'm very lucky to have good friends that include RenaultSport specialists and engine builders; and who are good enough to offer me their time and expertise. As for the exhaust, mine is actually a full stainless custom system from ProSpeed in Cardiff. I do believe it looks similar to the RS 192 in many ways. What are you driving mate? A Trophy?

The bodies obtain more hp ? How many?

I obtained an extra 40 bhp (bodies, cams, forged internals, high compression).

Nice car mate, So what sadly ended the life of this engine?
@AndyEder
8 жыл бұрын
Hi Aynsley, thanks for the comment. It's a little tricky to pinpoint the exact cause of the failure. From inspecting the resulting damage it would appear that there was a loss of oil pressure and excessive bore wash. There was also a possible injector fault which would not have helped matters. The cylinders were scored (sadly rendering the block useless as it had already been over bored) and the cam journals had suffered excessive wear. In addition, the cams themselves were too deeply scored to be saved (hence also ended up on the scrap heap).

Yep - I was not a happy bunny! Sadly these things happen. It was a bitter pill to swallow as this was the second failed ITB build that resulted in catastrophic engine failure. I'm now going down the forced induction route and my current turbo build is slowly coming together now with a few nice bits 'n' pieces :)

I bet you werent, I would of been devastated all the time and money you had invested in a very envious clio. Would you directly blame the ITBs for the failure on both your set ups then? Just curious as Im thinking of going down this route> Any advice more than welcome. Cheers
