Few other tips: - In the render tab, the light paths tab has a “Fast GI Approximation” option. This can help speed up renders without a noticeable difference - You can use “Branched Path Tracing” rather than “Path Tracing” for the integrator for greater control of how many samples to use for each path type. - Branched Path Tracing also adds 2 options in the Advanced tab of the Sampling tab which lets you turn off sample all direct/indirect lights, which means that rather than sampling every light source for every sample, it will randomly sample a light source. It’ll always speed it up especially if you have lots of lights, but depending on how your scene is lit it might introduce extra noise. - You can turn off caustics to reduce noise from reflections/refractions - if you want to do depth of field in post, you can separate objects into a couple layers which can help give more accurate blur when there is a lot of depth separation between a foreground out of focus object and an in-focus object behind it.
@DodaGarcia
3 жыл бұрын
Question since you mentioned layers: don’t they multiply the render time by the number of layers? As in, each layer has to be rendered in full? I can’t seem to find a definitive answer on this.
@EtanChamare
3 жыл бұрын
@@DodaGarcia kind of. I believe it won’t increase render time if everything not on the layer is set to matte (holdout), but it’s not as useful if you do that. The proper use is to matte everything behind the layer and phantom (indirect only) everything in front of the layer. This way it renders the full background without midground and foreground props/characters, which will probably take the same amount as just doing everything on one layer, but then when you render the midground and foreground layers it isn’t rendering any of the pixels of the background, making it much faster for those layers. Additionally, when it’s separated into layers you can render without depth of field and properly fake it in post (rendering it all together and trying to fake depth of field in post can often lead to some weird artifacts). That’s where the real speed up comes from. Rendering in layers, while slower than rendering together without depth of field, is often times faster than rendering together with depth of field

The one thing I think that is important when it comes to interpolation is to make sure it doesn’t impact the emotion of your animation. So if you have a character animation in 24fps, that is keyed frame by frame, interpolating will mess with your animated design/characters animation because the AI may misinterpret the emotion of your animation.
