This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.
This Core Concept video focuses on Rene Descartes' work, The Meditations, specifically on meditation 3 and the important distinction that he makes between "objective reality" - the degree of reality or perfection that something has as an idea in the mind - and "formal" or "actual reality" - which is the reality that something has as such, not merely as an idea. This distinction will prove central in the argument for God's existence that Descartes will provide in the third meditation.
