hi! i'm not sure the exact amount as we were quoted a lump sum for all of our hacking works. but i'll say it should be within a few hundred dollars for it.

Very informative! Btw, why did it took your reno 1 1/2 mths to start? Delay with the BSC rectification?
@lifewithmaniac

Hello! We were delayed for about a month from the BSC rectification works. The additional half came from manpower shortage due to CNY period. Quite unlucky for us.😅

Your living room ac location is flawed. Your original location was much better. Try to change or regret for many any years to come.

Hello! Thank you! We didn't engage an ID for our home, so won't be able to share with you here. For budget wise, it depends on what kind of reno works you are looking at. We're still in the midst of our reno so don't have an accurate figure to provide you. Perhaps we can update again in one of our later videos.😊

We have the almost exact same layout and I am doing the same hacking and adding glass panel to my bedroom 3 as well. I can confirm that your air con will not be able to reach your living sofa area. A few of my friends have this problem and the air con is not powerful enough to reach that far - especially since you’re only running on a single system 4, I assume your dining room air con is only 12 BTU. The solution I’ve come up with is to run 2 systems, 1 system 3 and 1 system 2. So I have a total of 5 Aircons. My living room/ dining room configuration is 1 aircon unit above the glass panel facing the dining kitchen area, 1 aircon unit above the sofa area in the living room. I think this is the only option if you truly want to cool the whole area. Would advice you to consider a strong ceiling fan for living room area since this is your configuration. If u want to see how my trunking is done I can email you the pictures.

Hello! Thanks for leaving us such a detailed comment and solution. Our dining room air-con is actually 24k BTU, single System 4. We took the installer's advice to mount it there as he assured us that 24k BTU would be sufficient to reach the sofa area (from his experience). We have not tried, so won't know how it performs. We have a ceiling fan at our sofa area, but not dining. That aside, we're curious to know how your current trunking is done, since the glass panel seems to be in the way. If you don't mind, you can send it to our email or dm us on our insta @lifewithmaniac. 🙂

Hi jus want to share some info. Fm e location at e living room which u decided, it might not be a good idea. E air will not be strong enough to get to the sofa area, end up u might need to tune ur aircon much stronger (waste electricity n $) or even so might still not b strong too. Otherwise u might need to install a larger capacity aircon (which i did for my). Fm what i see, best to still shift ur aircon to the original spot u want to install (best location for e air to get to living n dining). For aircon, it still pays to shift to the best spot or pay to install a larger capacity for its function than to mind e aesthetic issue. If aesthetic issue over surface the functionality, u will hv a lot of issue in the long run. Jus for sharing

Hello there! Really appreciate your sharing with us!😊 We understand that there will be pros and cons based on the choice we made. Definitely agree on the points you have brought up, especially on aesthetic vs functionality! However, if we kept to the original position, our dining area (right below our current mounting) might not be able to be kept cool since it is directly behind the air-con. For our living room AC unit, we selected one with 24k BTU capacity. Was it similar to yours as well? Hopefully, it will be sufficient for our usage since its airflow down to the dining and living is unblocked. At the current point of our renovation now, it may be too late to make any changes. Regardless, we hope that our discussion here can provide pointers to upcoming homeowners that plan to install a new AC system for their home.🙂

@@lifewithmaniac hi, my shld be 24k btu too. It was e highest capacity at the point of time I bought it (10yrs back). Thank you for sharing all the points and to note too. Understand where u r coming fm. I think it shld not be a problem for airflow to flow to ur dining w e original location. Is more of e air flowing all e way to e sofa area that is challenging fm e dining all e way there. Since it is alrd settle n decided there is no choice but to go w it. I hope there wont be any issue w the airflow for your living room when it is ready. N hope u all can enjoy a cooling living area too. Also wanted to thank you for sharing so much info on ur vlog w us. Is v helpful n informative for us. I m gaining more perspective on all these info tips n sharing for my next house in future n hope it can help me to save more $ and time.

Yup, we agree the sofa area might not be as cool given our current mounting. Perhaps we can review it again after we've moved in. Thanks again for your kind words and taking the time to share with us your experience. We are first time home owners, so everything is new to us. All the best with your future home! 🙂

The problem with renovation in Singapore is that like the local construction industry the norm is SHODDY WORKMANSHIP. Why? Because the work is done by basically unskilled often foreign workers. They are not only no properly trained anf often not given the right tools to use and/or not trained to use them. Moreover, they are often in a rush ("time is money") they want to finish asap so they can move on to the next job and also want to use as little materials as possible. The also often use cheap poor quality paint like Matex and cover-up their mistakes/poor quality work with white silicone. The above is also the reason BTO flats are not only over-priced but also poor quality. "Cheap work is not good and good work is not cheap" - you get what you pay for. M
