Looking to do mine. Paranoid about not being able to ever clean underneath them. Considering mounting them on a roof bars/rack. Are those attachment points for a rack, that run down the edges of the roof ? And how as it held up a year on ?

Yes, cleaning underneath is very very difficult. in hindsight I would rack mount mine on build no2. you are right, the 'pins' down the sides are for roof racks etc. look at dedicated roof racks and also making your own out of 8020 aluminium extrusion. mine have held up well with my fixing method, no leaks and no movement at all, right through storm eunice and 70mph on the motorway. i do get a bit of wind noise so am looking at a wind deflector for the front to help with that. I am also designing a system for fitting the fans and rooflights that stops water 'pooling' in the troughs behind them as this is a pain aswell. It is not easy and the roof is a topic in its own right, finding the balance between cleaning and accessibility and it looking like its cocked up in the air....

I am in Devizes so not a million miles away. best tip would be to do these things in this order: 1. take a deep breath. 2. make tea. 3. scratch head a bit. 4. just do it and except there will be cock ups along the way :-)

You need to protect the cables from UV degredation, if you are keeping the van for the long haul.

I don't like self tappers through sheet steel myself. I would have used Rivnuts with 6mm stainless bolts as proper fixtures. Neat job otherwise !

A good shout! when I take them off to clean underneath that sounds like a plan and I did not think of that at the time. will be pretty easy to enlarge the holes from the self tappers. great tip.
