I bought one last week and set it out without really dialing in the azimuth or alignment. I just pointed it at the sun here in Utah on a 50 F day and was charging my Bluetti AC180 and it was pulling in 390 watts. I am impressed; the only drawback is that it's a bit awkward. But as far as performance; wow.

Nice review... I've used Renogy glass & flex 100watt solar panels along with their charge controllers, for the past 7+ years. The Flex ones are just about 1 yr old that I picked up on a sale. All have worked very well & I would recommend them to anyone. This one seems a little spendy at the 'retail $$' but not too bad on the sale price. It is a nice compact portable system and a lot lighter than 4 glass & less cumbersome than 4 Flex panels. Look forward to your update on these.

Time will tell, but it looked like they are pretty easy to replace. I'll have to open the junction boxes but I think it would be as easy as soldering or crimping in a replacement wire.

Solar harvest will be about the same so its really up to you physically if its easier so deal with one suitcase or two. The 400W works well for us but it is a bit awkward due to the extra weight. Took me a while to figure out the best way to open it up deploy and close to store. I've been using it on our boat this summer - kzitem.info/news/bejne/pW58sKJ8qXaGiKw

New to solar , will be putting one in for my 11’ camper. Does the solar ever overload your battery?
@LoveYourRV
3 ай бұрын
No, because the panels are first connected to a solar charger controller that regulates the volts and amps that the battery gets. Panels connect to the solar charger and the solar charger connects to the battery.

Hey Ray, good to see your almost back to BC , Love Winchester Bay, Thanks for the review, I think this might be the way to go for some good ectra power thats portable. With your system do you have to turn off the other solar you have ? Or can this be added streight to the batteries with the other Systems, Does this affect the MTPP of the rest of your system ?

I have two MPPT solar controllers installed. One 60 amp for the roof panels and a 50 amp for the ground panels. I have them set for the same charging voltages, and they seem to play nice together. I'm currently getting about 75-80 amps combined charging. There are 940 watts on the roof flat mounted. You can see the current solar power system setup in this recent video kzitem.info/news/bejne/xYOh2meQhpyQkmk

Nice panel! Those connecting wires between the panels could be a weak point and prone to break or damage over time with frequent opening and closing.

When I saw them I thought good, easy to fix if they break. :) The thin flexible panel ones are always buried somewhere inside a fabric casing.

I just bought this new Renogy 400 Watt Solar Panel, and I'm impressed with the rigid panel (fiberglass) as well as the aluminum kickstands and frame. The corner protectors are also nice. Renogy says they have tested the opening and closing of these panels 3K times, and they also offer a class leading 5 year warranty!

Will that plug in the solar plug in the side of my 2021 Cougar ?
@LoveYourRV
6 ай бұрын
I'm not familiar with newer Cougar OEM solar options back in my 2011 it was even an option but if there is a solar controller connected inside and it can handle 50 volts 12 amps and 450 watts then it will work great power wise. As far as physically I don't know what kind of plug they use so may have to get an adapter if its not the standard solar panel MC4 type connectors. Maybe an adapter came with the RV.

Only 10 amps total or 10 amps per panel in optimal sun? I saw you got a bit over 11 but 10 per 400 watts seems low, especially for that price. I’ve seen fixed panels get 9 per 200 watts which could be as much as 18 amps in good sun with 2 panels.

Amps are only part of the equation. Total power (measured in watts) is what's important.

You're probably comparing the amperage that is typical for 12V type panels. This is a higher voltage panel arrangement. At peak sun my solar controller recorded 38.6 volts 11.47 amps = 443 watts The advantage of having a higher voltage and lower current is less losses in the wire resistance. So smaller gauge or longer wires can be used versus 12V type panels with higher amperage. The so called 12V type panels generally output around 18 working volts. So to get 443 watts there would be 24.6 amps required. Cheers, Ray

@LoveYourRV Honestly I have a renogy 40a solar controller, I bought it because at the time, I was cash poor. The controller is not that great. The panel efficiency is the same as cheap Chinese panels. I find the two extra minutes it takes to set up individual lightweight flex panels over suitcase panels is well worth the effort for the ease of transport in my van. And what most people are clueless about matching voltage to my roof panels. IMO suitcase panels are a gimmick for the solar generator crowd.
@LoveYourRV

True, I find them convenient. It's nice to have 400W in one lightweight package with frames and tilts. I generally move mine multiple times to follow the sun over the course of the day. The downside is that if it breaks, you could lose all 400W versus four individual 100-watt panels, better redundancy. I traveled one year with six individual 100-watt portable panels, and that was quite a pain to deal with. Cheers, Ray
