Garden House (Compok Cellep) by Studio Akanoma
Exclusive Coverage
In this special episode, the Arsitag team visited a very beautiful, cool and environmentally friendly house belonging to Mr. Andreas Harsono & Mrs. Sapariah Saturi. The house, called Compok Cellep (from Madurese which means 'cool house'), was designed by Pak Yu Sing, founder and principal of Studio Akanoma, who has long championed environmentally friendly and sustainable designs.
There are lots of interesting things in this house; starting from how Pak Yu Sing integrates outdoor and indoor spaces so that the house feels cool and doesn't require a lot of energy for air conditioning. The spaces are made very compact and multifunctional, so that their limited size can accommodate many different functions. In fact, the furniture is custom designed to make it more comfortable for everyday use.
For people who like planting and maintaining plants, this house could be a dream home because there are lots of places provided for that, from gardens, balconies, railings, even bathroom walls. The most interesting part of this house is the kitchen. With a semi-outdoor design, this simple kitchen is very comfortable as a place to cook, eat, hang out, drink coffee, relax, cool off, even work.
Highlights
🏡 The house was originally a standard developer type 36 m2 house with a small garden.
🌿 The renovation added various garden spaces, including at the front, on the balcony, on the back fence and on the roof.
🌞 The carport is transformed into a garden area to provide shade and a green environment.
💡 The interior of the house was redesigned to blend with the garden and provide natural light and ventilation.
🌧️ Renovations include a rainwater harvesting system, utilizing rainwater for various purposes.
♻️ Recycled materials, such as used roof tiles, are used for garden pots.
