Such a powerful performance... I think this is my favorite version of this song. Jesse made a wonderful job! His tears made the performance so heart-clinching that I barely could stop my own tears at the end. I will always love RENT!

Anthony Rapp is just so passionate. I love it. The exchange between Mark and Roger, though. Who talks to someone in 3rd person?

I have a theory: he talks to Roger as if it was a part of a documentary or as if he was the narrator of the story, which is what Roger criticized about Mark moments before, but Mark can't just let go so easily of this way of living . I don't know, I find it so sad and amazing, such good writing...

I just feel like this isn't said enough, I get that maybe Daphne Rubin-Vega's interpretation of Mimi Marquez isn't everyone's cup of tea, but that isn't to say that she's a horrible performer or she "sings like shit." I happen to like her theatricality, I feel like Daphne gave a certain rawness and honesty to the role that reflected the times and would set a precedent for later actors. Clearly Jonathan Larson saw something in Daphne in order for him to come to the conclusion that she was perfect for the role, which is why she was picked for the original cast to begin with. Larson saw something special in her; he wasn't just looking for a conventional musical theatre voice, otherwise she wouldn't have been cast. As I mentioned before, nothing about RENT was conventional. I'm not suggesting that Daphne's performance was the absolute best above all others, but I feel she's never really given the credit she's due. I mean, there had never really been a musical like RENT before, so for Daphne to take a basic character description and to make it her own without any help is absolutely fantastic. Just because Daphne doesn't sound like Renee Elise Goldsberry or Rosario Dawson (both of whom are phenomenal performers in their own right), doesn't mean that she didn't have her own brilliance. I feel that we should stop bashing performers just because they don't necessarily fit the traditional mold of what a musical theatre should sound and look like.

The original cast is the best cast! I will never forget when I saw the show live... Changed musical theater...Talent, score and story. Now there are musicals like Mean Girls, Dear Even Hanson, Heathers, Next to Normal etc..

Not all musicals but a lot were encouraged by rent and Jonathan Larson. Especially given the history behind them

I am laughing at the pun but a bunch of Rent10 videos, including one of the full show but spliced weirdly, have surfaced.
