As someone who suffers from a chronic illness and has thought about using mobility aids before, this doll was absolutely amazing to see!! @rachelg9873

Yes! Not everyone who uses mobility aids use them all the time. I have a friend who was accused of child abuse because someone at their complex noticed that her daughter uses a wheelchair, a walker, and sometimes walking canes. They thought she was either injuring her repeatedly or forcing her to use them. We were all appalled that someone would believe that, but also not understand that some people my need mobility aids sometimes but not all the time. Anyways, I hope you take the leap and consider your needs above other's misconceptions. If your life would be better and enriched by having an aid, then you have nothing to loose and so much to gain! I consider it no different than choosing any other form of self care. We need what we need. Ya know? Wishing you the best.

@bearybear711 I made the decision to start using an aid after a really draining convention 2019... I only use it part time mainly when I'm by myself or in really bad flares and I honestly thought it would be a much bigger transition into my life than it was. I did get some response with work but if you communicate well with your HR they will help you if that is one of your reasons for not (would bring walker to work but than needed it stored during my shift as wouldn't be safe to leave out with the kids running around)...also I'm only 28

I still have to use a cane from time to time after my hip surgery, and I often get a lot of dirty looks because I’m so young. I can walk fine 99% of the time, but overdoing it exhausts the muscles they had to cut through for surgery, and sometimes they spasm. Definitely normalize mobility aids for people that appear “normal”!

Katherine does such an amazing job normalizing so many different levels of diversity! And it’s not advertiser-friendly diversity either; it’s the real deal. Her dolls were some of the first non-binary, BIPOC, and body-type inclusive representation I’ve found in a KZitem community that thrives off of character creation/design. When addressing ethnicity, she does her research. When building different bodies, she makes sure they’re functional (and I know that’s a character design thing, but still). Katherine normalizes the unique differences that make us the individuals we are, and that’s so important to actually attaining equal rights (across all forms of oppression). None of Katherine’s characters are treated as “other” within her own collection, and I want more people to think the way she does when it comes to inclusion. And also I think a neurodivergent, ADHD/ADD, and/or EFD (executive functioning disorder) inclusive doll would be cool as heck and interesting to watch the design process thereof. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. @@Dollightful The DollyGeek made ears for his Mario Princess's by using apoxy sculpt, that could be helpful. I'm really sorry the Wendigo doll video and the doll itself had to get taken down Katherine, but don't give up maybe you can turn her into something else like a vampire, yokai, ghost, grim reaper, pokemon, Witch doctor, day of the dead, Druid, or an undead dragon. I've believe Wendy the Wendigo deserves a much better form than to just be thrown away. I am truly sorry Katherine, I have been going through loads of stress and bad times too. But I believe in hope for a better tomorrow, I've seen your work & I know your doing better than ever. Catherine, I’m not gonna lie, i genuinely teared up when I saw the wheelchair. As someone with an invisible disability that effects me a lot and means I sometimes must use a wheelchair myself it meant a lot to see you, someone who I admire so much include this detail. Same, you said it so much better than I ever could. There's this huge misconception that people who use wheelchairs cannot stand at all, and when they do stand that they must be faking their disability. It really gets under my skin when people say stuff about faking a disability when they don't even know what they're talking about. I'm most likely going to end up using a wheelchair because of my joint condition. So it just really irks me when people think wheelchair users have to sit 100% of the time.

I love the addition of the wheelchair because it adds some character and since you saved it for the end of the video, it shows that you didn't want to use it as a selling point for people to watch! I'm disabled but not in that way, so I can't quite speak on this, but disabled people are often used as marketing points for diversity and accommodation the way POC are used. I am absolutely in love with her tho!!!

i KNOW i’m 2 years late but i love how inclusive you are with all of your dolls. you always take the time to make them their own people and i think that’s beautiful. i also love how you don’t make it a whole thing about how supportive you’re being while doing so. please never stop doing what you do
