Beginners: I was a cosmetologist and I understand color, contouring, highlights and low lights….if you do makeup think of your color combo in those terms. Think of your foundation as your primer which is your matte clear coat before you begin. Think of how you do your eyeshadows. I would suggest playing around first as you want to use thin layers of acrylic ( folk art and apple barrel also work) paints and keep your brush damp using long light coats. Miniature model brushes for like war hammer or dungeons and dragons work also nail art brushes. Check out tutorials on them and have a play. Also the chalks for scrap booking that are acid free work. Learn how to use your brushes by practicing to get even smooth coverage and what brushes do what. I use a toothpick to dot my eyes instead of a brush for my minis. You don’t need a lot of colors, learn how to gradient your colors and I find best highlights/low light are w/same color lightened or darkened. My first doll I did looked ugly because it is a little different working on plastics. I also had a lot of leftover furniture chalk paints and they work as well thinned out and sealed with a water based polyacrylic spray sealer. I hope my experiences help someone thinking of getting into this hobby. Thanks Laurie for your videos I enjoy watching artists of all kinds! God bless you!

@LaurieLeighArt

Hi Jack , I don't have one on that but I definitely will make one. I will give you the short version. Place the doll in a heating pad on high. If you don't have one I will upload a how to for a rice DIY heading pad. This will soften the vinyl and allow you to carefully remove it. Never use force. Wait for the vinyl to be squishy. You can put the head back between the heating pad to put the head back on when you are done.

Just a suggestion. You should not make the video too quick. As we cannot learn how you paint it. Take it slow ly. And if not enough you can cut it down to many part video. Such as part 1,part 2 and so on. Just my 2 cent

@@LaurieLeighArt do you constantly go back to use the air brush fluid for the liking/thinning of the art when applying it to the face? Or it’s a one time thing when the fluid is placed in the foil with the paint!?
@LaurieLeighArt

@@stallyjenkins9893 I do like to thin with airbrush fluid the most. When I'm out I used a acrylic thinner from the craft paint section. I think the airbrush fluid keeps the paint a bit sharper. 💕

Hi! I use several different pencils. I recommend Arteza 48 Expert Colored Pencils on Amazon. Great value. For individual pencils you can go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby and pick up Prismacolor in colors like dark brown, burnt sienna and dark red and black. I also love to use pastel pencils, any brand will do, in cream.

I love this. Tonner dolls are beautifully sculpted but I don't usually like the paint they come with so it's great to see someone else painting them to look they way I like Lol! That's a great tip about keeping the paint layers thin because I have terrible trouble with it going lumpy and you always have to start again. It takes a steep learning curve (for me anyway, especially on 1:6 faces!) I really have to work on building opacity with lots of thin layers. You kind of want to rush but it never works out!
