We have one thrift store that is piled up with CRT sets and nobody buys them. Once in a blue moon, something with knobs will come in and I'll get it for $5 or $10. A flea market has them and they are priced like it's 1999. Despite that, he says he sells them (however, the evidence does not indicate that). The last CRT TV I tried to sell was a 32" Sanyo that had the remote and instruction book. I fixed it for about $10 in parts and could not even get that for it (I finally found someone who would take it for free). Before that, I had a '90's RCA console. Tried giving that one away on FB and someone was going to take it, until they found out it wasn't a flat screen. That person was supposedly "needy"; but, thought owning a console TV was beneath them. Now, when I wind up with a CRT set that I don't want, I just give it to the flea market. It's really not worth the aggravation to list it on FB, only to either get ignored or stood up on a $10 TV. I'd rather just have my fun with it and just give it to someone.

You know why they call those places flea markets? Because when you see the prices you flee away from the place.
@radiotvphononut

@@jerryspann8713 Yes, and I get disgusted when I keep going in the flea markets and they have the same overpriced crap that was there a year, or more, ago. A couple of local flea markets are about to go out of business and I suspect what I just mentioned is the reason. I told a friend, who thought he was going to set up a booth at a flea market, that he had to constantly keep the merchandise in rotation and be willing to negotiate on prices. I told him that you just can't load a booth up with stuff and walk away. If something is not selling, move it out and put something in it's place that will sell. Another thing that some flea market vendors don't get is you sometimes have to take a loss and make it back on something else. A few weeks ago, I tried to buy a wire recorder that has been there for years. I offered him $40, he said he had $75 in it (I think he's lying), and needed at least $80. I pretty much told him to be prepared for it to sit on the shelf for another 5 years. Even if he had $75 in it, you sometimes have to let stuff go and make it back on something else that you don't have much money in.

Nice to see one of these working. I have one just like it that my old neighbor left at the bottom of the basement stairwell and I can't find a home for it. If my beloved 1988 20" GE from 1988 ever bites the dust for good, I might go rescue it, but for anyone who hasn't already allotted the space for a CRT, it's hard to let something so bulky into the house. If I were "needy", I'd snap one up in a second, though; the price is right.

I still have 3 CRT TVs in my house that I use, plus a number of monitors. CGA, EGA, VGA, eMac and a Commodore 1084S and a Commodore 64 monitor, whose model number is escaping me at the moment. There is no substitute for a good CRT monitor for old games and old computers. They just look so much better, even at lower resolutions. LCDs suck at scaling.

I picked up a 19" Trinitron to watch VHS horror movies that suck watching on 1080p or 4K TVs with how the image is so upscaled. It takes the magic out of watching a good horror movie and makes the experience like a bad smart phone video. I also run emulators off my computer with S-video out to the same TV with a few old school gaming consoles with RCA to get the experience us 80's kids enjoyed. Tried upscalers for newer tvs, sucked much ass.

Good video. I enjoyed it. On July 2019 I got rid of my 17 year old 14inch Philips TV. It was not Funai related. It's made in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. I had to get rid of it because everything started breaking on it. The VCR, the speaker, the screens, hooked-on dvd player and two remotes. At that point I decided to pull the plug on the whole set. My dad bought the TV new in 2002. I moved out with it in 2015. And used it as bedroom TV for 4 years. If I ever get a new TV for the living room. I'll put the by-then old flat screen TV in the bedroom.

Good CRT TVs and monitors are in high demand. Playing older games on an LCD is a problem because of latency. Games can be completely unplayable on an upscaler TV and the CRT has a characteristic that LCDs just do not have and so if you want to be authentic, you need to play it on a CRT. It should be in great condition, preferable with an S-Video connector on the back, along with Composite and RF.

The best way to sell a modestly-sized CRT TV is to advertise it as "perfect for the authentic retro console gaming setup!". No one actually watches them any more, but someone who bothers to collect vintage video games wants to play them on a vintage tube TV.
