What is regrettable is that some countries have reached a good technological level, while others are left behind, practically living in the same medieval stages. In a developed country that metal would be reused, recycled, and in the factory a new body would be manufactured, everything new. I'm not belittling the hard work of the artisans, I'm just showing another, more suitable option.

All jokes aside, the repairs (or so many other aspects of life) are relative to the society and wealth a country and it's people have access to. It is so easy for Western society to sit back and cast judgement on how and why these sorts of things should or should not be done. On one end of the scale, we have a country like Pakistan where they HAVE to make do with what they have with limited wealth and affluence hence, nothing is wasted and everything is recycled. Most likely a large proportion of their population's existence depends on it daily to put food on the table !! At the other end of the scale we have ourselves drowning in rampant consumerism and the subsequent waste we generate that is choking our recycle centres. I am reminded of seeing a doco a few years ago of a young Indian woman standing on a pile of rags and as the camera panned backwards it became evident it was a literally a small mountain of most likely 30 to 40 mtrs high of discarded clothes that were shipped there for recycling (cast-offs / worn once from I would assume one of our advanced western nations !). Notwithstanding the OH&S issues that we witness in these posts I am blown away by the skill and ingenuity of these workers. When was the last time you saw a "panelbeater" in your normal panel repair shop actually hold a hammer and dolly ? If the world ever goes through some cataclysmic event that strips the world of our modern and techo advanced lifestyles who do you think will adapt to the surroundings best ??

great work, nothing gets wasted in the third world, they could live on what we throw away, imagine these guys getting let loose in a UK scarp yard, they would be millionaires within a month, they would not believe what we scrap, cars crushed for minor defects like steering tracking out, wheel bearings and tyres worn, bent disks, a couple of warning light faults that won't clear the whole car ends up crushed, these guys would have them MOT'd by the end of the day. .
