fans generally do that whole stop functioning and start thing when the bearing are going out a good way to test is if you assist the fan in turning and it starts spinning then its the bearing in it going bad. So I guarantee you the fan would have stopped again if that were the case.

I've always wanted to get into Video Game console/games repair and restoration but there's so many uncertainties and scary about it. Do I really wanna invest the money into something I don't have much experience about? I have absolutely *no* experience in selling things so how would I know if I'm selling something for a right price? How would I know if my work is exceptional enough to warrant a price that I give it. Box restorations *are* possible but very scary and one mess up could ruin the entire thing. So how would I be able to feel confident in taking on... Say... An expensive boxed game like... I dunno a LTTP. I can do basic stuff like swap out bad components but soldering is completely beyond my current abilities. Just some thought dumping.

I wonder if you could swap the fan with a quieter one (Noctua comes to mind), since it looks like a standard size PC/server fan size. EDIT: using the photo on the link, I found the part number (it's a nidec 40*40*20 mm chassis fan), and I think that a standard PC fan could fit here like a Noctua A4x10 (although that's half the thickness of the official one)
@volvo09
2 жыл бұрын
You could swap it. The only thing to beware of is that the connector won't be the same (I'm assuming here, but that's a frequent issue) and the layout of the wires won't be the same. So you'd have to find out which wires on the old fan are power, ground, tach, pwm) and match that up with the new fan. I have a big box of various dell server and PC fans and they all have to be rewired before I put them in a PC, Dell (like other manufacturers) purposely change the orientation of the wires around to stop the average user from buying an off the shelf fan... But if you can splice or repin the wires in the right order, it will work.
