Thanks for posting your video. I wish I had found your video when my floor lamp weight fell apart ; ) I picked the lamp up and the concrete and plastic weigh fell out in many pieces. I have been searching for a replacement weight for some time now. I thought I would be froogle and purchase an old 5 lb dumb bell weight, but it is too thick for the length of pipe used in the lamp and the thread count of the pipe seems to be odd. I con't find a replacement pipe to go into the threaded part of the lamp itself. So, I guess I will have to bite the bullet and purchase a lamp weight an pay the shipping charge.

Don't overlook thrift stores as a parts source. I often see lamps priced less than the shipping of a replacement part. This assumes a replacement part is available.

I've been enjoying watching the video, i want to repair a few types of lamps because i can't part with them, some have a base with no concrete just wood and weights, interested in knowing how to fix the base of that one.

What can you put on the bottom to cover it. I need to cover the bottom of a used lamp with something that won't catch fire. What do you use?

The cover on the bottom of a lamp is called "felting" and it's purpose is to prevent the lamp from scratching furniture. The most common material is felt. Stiffened felt can be found in hobby stores. I make my own by gluing felt to a poster board. There is very little fire risk from any kind of felting.

Thank you very much. I get most of my parts inventory from GrandBrass.com. They are in New Jersey and warehouse their own parts. A lot of lamp suppliers found online are actually just a computer server and the entire business is in China. When I call Grand Brass, I talk to someone who has a New York accent.
