Saved a lot of cylinders with some gentle sanding. Most effective method I've found. Nice job!

Shindiawa is a good saw. They were prone to frying because they were one of the first to really get into EPA compliance. They were adjusted waay to lean out of the box. Some had those limiters that you couldn't mess with, without destroying the carb, and some just had a limited adjustment on the low side.

The 757 is an awesome saw! One of my favorites! You are way better with your little flapper of sandpaper is definitely better! It’s not an echo it’s from before they were associated with each other… or from when Shindawia was actually a company or brand…. It’s a shame that they didn’t market their equipment very well because it’s all very well made equipment!!!! The reason that Echo has made this big resurgence into the chainsaw world is because they acquired the Shindawia engineering department!!!

Nice job on that cylinder! I have used a ton of scotch Brite for jobs like that, but the rollock trick is definitely one I will be using. I wrap Scotch Brite around drill bits to clean holes and other things. Something I have used on cast iron cylinders to remove aluminum is sodium hydroxide, it melts it off almost instantly. Not sure how it would be in that chrome cylinder though. I may try it some day when I get a cylinder in that condition. Might be fine if one was careful. That shindawa looks like a nice saw that you will be able to do some nice case matching work on along with the porting. I bet it will be a rad saw.

I agree of course ! Shindaiwa is all good stuff. Good luck on the rest of assembly. But that acid...did you not leak some into the ports where it should not be...when you tilted the cylinder and brass brushed it ? Hmm. I understand you have fun with the saws and have a cool and relaxing attitude when you presentate your ideas and patents... he he. You need find a home depot with real strong maur/ muriadic acid he he 100 % ! Take care !

It was before Echo got them, but being Japanese they did do business. Some of Echo's pro stuff was Shindiawa. Especially the larger saws. Tanaka and Echo also did business, along with Mauriama.

I freakin love the 757….?you can definitely make those saw’s run with some porting! It’s a 51mm bore over 36mm stroke so it’s in between a 372 and a BigBore 372… it really sucks that it’s a 51mm because there’s no other piston close that you can piston swap??? 🤔🤔🤔. Unfortunately Shindawia is just like echo.,. All your parts are OEM and stupid expensive… which carburetor do you have? 28” skipper setup is pretty sweet! You can always use a bent cotter pin and slap a Stihl bar on it…it’s a jammer with a 25” Rollomic! And a loop of RS! 👍😂

I’m a sissy…because I ware my big yellow dish washing gloves so I don’t get it on my hands… I use a grease coating or a silicone caulk and coat that bare aluminum in the port window’s and I make a little lip so that acid stays on the lining and aluminum only. Great stuff!!!

Sand with 120 then hit with acid let it sit rinse out sand again then hit with acid let sit and rinse.. then repeat til it’s gone. The acid works faster after the transfer has been sanded.

Gotta be careful with some of that stuff. If it gets in the ports (where their is no plating) it will eat into the parent material.

Hey man… the Duke’s saw shop has the deal… they have the piston with a little popup deal with the black moly coating one’s…$25 bucks!!! I love those pistons I think they are Hyway made.,.they feel almost as good as a meteor piston kit and they are only $25 bucks not $45 bucks!!! Build a little pipe muffler and get a v-stack for the air filter… I’d build it on the cheap but that’s how I like to do it… I’d rather make it a little muffler then toss money at it… you get a 1/4 plate aluminum or steel and make a little spacer plate then just grab a Farmertec $15 dollar 372 muffler and adapt it right onto your cylinder…. Or buy a aftermarket round muffler for a little 10hp 4 stroke motor with the round input and just weld a little 1” threaded pipe to the metal plate and screw that muffler on… it’ll work just fine… it’s not the space shuttle!!! 🤘😛

Your video production and your performance’s are really funny!!! 😀👍 So you opened up the front of the intake on the Xtorq/scavenger cylinder that you did… did you gut the intake boot to open it up? I cut the entire inside baffling out of the boots then I radically open the intake window… on the Xtorq design cylinder’s! I’m playing around with a 441 piston in an Xtorq 372 jug now…

so what is that sandpaper bit on your foredom/dremel?
About anything will work, this is just what I had on hand. I need to buy some more of those small flap discs for dremel or whatever. It doesn't always work out, sometimes the cylinder has been pushed too far and the lining has been breached, in that case, there is almost no bringing it back, but it is actually difficult to ruin the cylinder yourself. As long as you go at it with some sense, you can sand the alluminum transfer right off without damaging the lining. If the lining is damaged, it was almost definitely caused by the piston, not you. In which case, it was already crap, so...

@@novicelumberjack thanks Boedy, I know Donny Walker used Christmas tree sanding bits for exhaust ports and stuff, maybe I’ll pick some up. I’ve got some dead cylinders to play with anyway.
